Great video! I took the Dunlop AT3GM's from Cape Town through Botswana and up to North Zambia and back. 13000km and looking brand new. Handled any terrain fantastically! And we had some terrible roads. Also the fact that they are R2500 (approx) per tire made them my choice. Glad to see they made the list.

Fitted Dunlop AT3GM'S to my 2013 D4d. Have done Tankwa, Tierkloof 4x4, Namakwa Eco Trail etc etc Had KO2s before the Dunlops. Fantastic tyre for carrying a heavy load and hard gravel and rock driving. Get about 8.5km/l fully loaded on trips. The tyre can comfortably be deflated under load to 1.2bar and driven on gravel, no punctures or issues. Negatives are they are slightly noisy as they have large tread blocks but really deal with water well as there are 4 large water channels running in the tread.

Thanks for the valuable feedback, how many km do you think you can get off the tyre?

I have the ATZs from Mickey Thompson. Absolutely love them. They go hard on the super offroad stuff. The Baja Boss will be my next tyres, because I am not sure I will be able to source the ATZs again.

I had Bridgestone Duelers MT's on my Pajero, slightly soft on road, great grip on road in the wet and dry, and fantastic off-roading. Reasonably priced as well. Fantastic tyre, I managed to clock over 75000km's on these. ❤️❤️

I know they are more for highway and a little off roading, but I love my bfgoodrich trail terrain t/a tires. I had K 2 tires for years but, in the last few years, I got married, and we now have two very young children, I just do not go off road like I did before I got married. These tires work great on the highway, are very quiet, yet do great when we go out to our cabin or the lake. If you are mostly on road, I would recommend these tires.

A/S. A much improved review this year versus earlier comparisons sir ! I helped a SAF lady earlier with her '04 LC105 where she fitted the new M/T Baja Boss AT in the Kimberley and is very impressed with their 2ply. Might be interesting to see what VW mount on their version of the South Africa assembled Amarok mista ? V.

had two very good experiences with AT3GM's one set on a ford ranger and another on a pajero sport. some serious rough terrain with absolutely no issues, only concern is they seem to wear rather quickly

I drive the hyundai H-1 and i've been told AT tyres will damage my suspension. Apparently AT are more for stronger suspensions like 4x4 and trucks. Any advise on this? I do about 10% off road but still wanted to go for AT because of the bad roads in South Africa, potholes etc.
@Africasideways Жыл бұрын
utter rubbish, modern AT will work well on most vehicles and are superior unless you like to drive over 180km/h. Doing 10 percent gravel no brainer to get ATs. At the moment you are running 215/70 R16 likely, I'd go for 225/70 R16 for a bit more grip. Dunlop AT5.

I've just had Falken Wildpeak AT3WA tyres fitted to my Discovery 3. Very happy so far. Just wanted to ask something though... In 2021's video you referred to Wildpeak AT3, and showed a picture of AT3WA. In 2022's video, you refer to AT3WA, but show a picture of AT3W. Have you compared AT3W and AT3WA against each other at all?
@Africasideways Жыл бұрын
Great, happy to hear they are going well. Thanks for the heads-up. AT3wa is more road bias tread than AT3w, while the AT3w has a more aggressive tread - if you do a lot of serious offroading. Both great on gravel.

Great video! Really informative. Wanted your opinion on a 90% on road 10% off road on a 2016 Toyota fortuner in Kenya. Am considering the Dunlop AT5 after your video. Was also looking at the Bridgestone 697 and the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus. What do you think?
@Africasideways2 жыл бұрын
Reply, thank you. Out of those softer options, I'd go for the AT5. If you've got the budget, I'd go for the Dunlop AT3G.

25 percent is a fair amount, would get a 3 ply sidewall: Baja Boss, Maxxis Razr or Dunlop AT3GM.

@@bruce7890 Ja, the prado 150 is about the best you can get for off-roading over there for new cars. Guess Spain and Portugal better for long gravel stretches. Have you done much wheeling over here?

Africa Sideways Was the main reason for the demotion due to troubles your friend had, or have there been a number of instances of problems?
@Africasideways2 жыл бұрын
2 friends experience with other AT Coopers in Namibia, both lost tyres. Not your XLT thou and have not heard of problems therein, perhaps a little harsh dropping them all the way to 9. Cooper had a big recall in 2021 for some of the regular AT3s in specific sizes. 275 in particular. Recalls• Cooper Adventurer H/T (Pep Boys 275/65R18), Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S (275/65R18), Discoverer A/T3 (275/65R18), Evolution H/T (275/65R18), Discoverer AT3 4S (275/55R20)

I had them on my 2011 Disco 4 , V8. Did about 70,000 km on them The would go way over 100000km as they were 50% worn at most. 90 % highway use. Only a bit of rock crawling as they were 255/55R19's. I list one so decided to get a new set of 4 tyres. The Coopers were good but on highway you need to inflate them way past Landrover sticker values otherwise you get a steering wobble at about 100kph to 110kph. Also not the best in the wet on paved roads.
