I went to the black salon once they were jamaican. My hair wasn't even long. Those people made fun of my hair laugh at it and finally told me why can't you just put relaxer? I just want my hair braided. They did my hair and commenting during 😢. I paid $ 175 for pain and insult. After that I learned how to embrace my hair doing it my self. Sometimes if a stylist would just listen. I have a lot of hair so it isn't best to leave it all down when getting ready to style it. You said a whole word in this video! 👏🏽I have stopped supporting salons like that braid shop. I have been in places where the braider talked about my hair in French. I actually called one out and said “oh, it looks like you’ll get your workout today.” She laughed, AGREED with me, and told me that’s what she told the other girl in French. Unfortunately, I was young and in a bind, so I stayed and had her braid my hair. At this point in my life, I refuse to stay at any place like that. I wash, condition, and braid my own hair. I tried to find a natural hair salon in the past, but I’m now very picky because many of them can’t (or don’t want to) do natural hair IN ITS NATURAL STATE. I went to a salon to have a natural style installed. She partially blew out my hair to install flat twists and two strand twists. I asked the stylist why stylists don’t do natural hair in its natural state. She essentially told me that stylists have to make it convenient for themselves, and what I was asking was not possible. That says in all imo 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@msdiva yeah, I understand. To me, "not doing any hair care" would mean not doing anything to the hair. The reason braiders do this (if you happen to live in the US) is because in many states, individuals are allowed to charge for hair braiding without actually having a cosmetology license. I think it’s safe to assume these braiders that have these stipulations have never completed courses and this is why they cannot offer any other services to clients…
@AfrikanHairGod

There are many states where you can wash hair without a license. The problem is that they don't want to work with someone's natural texture. The unnecessary need and lack of skill to not braid someone's hair in its natural state without excessive products is the issue

It appears to me that those braiders were jealous of that beautiful young lady’s long and healthy hair. Quite a bit of African braiders have so much contempt and hatred for African American women that come in their salon. They often damage our hair by intentionally braid our hair too tight or damage our hairlines or edges . I feel for this young lady who was upset, she need to do her a favor and don’t patronize those African braiders. I haven’t been to any since 15 years ago, they are mean and disrespectful. They do talk 💩about African American clients by talking in French and laugh. Plus some of those braiders have foul body odors too and their hair is jacked up, they wear scarves or ugly wigs.

That lady from NOLA who said “fight the texture” wtf? No ma’am. No one should be fighting with your hair. I don’t get why people were questioning if she is black when she clearly look black to me. I immediately perceived her to be Somali or Eritrean. And even if she does have looser curl it didn’t keep people from trolling her.

Natural hair stylists charge by the hour. No one walks out of a natural hair salon without spending over $200, because natural hair styles are time consuming. A few natural salons will do a wash and braid down (for under a wig) for around $50, but those are few and far between. I have a lot of fine textured, high density, kinky hair. I've been natural since before the natural hair trends because my hair could *never* take a relaxer Whatever happened to simple hairstyles that maintain hair health but are not very time consuming? Why are they always expected to be short?

You can be a braider or a natural hair culturist in the state of Michigan without having a cosmetology license, but you are NOT ALLOWED to wash hair. You can only be a licensed cosmetologist in a licensed facility in order to perform any of those coloring, washing, etc. services

Greatest takeaway here: NAME NAMES, OR LEAVE IT ON THE PLAYGROUND!!! Telling her friends to review is okay but not putting the community on notice, ehhhh. Why would I wanna experience the same thing unknowingly??😂 You already viral let’s get it more viral for good reason. They aren’t kind people so they don’t need protection

Also I find this entire thing suspect because she comes in and it gives the impression that the events just happened but at 18:23 he said that it was bothering him and he found someone so did this happen just before the conversation or at an earlier time? If so, I just find it so weird that they would have this conversation and be recording it? Because they were in the car I just assumed that the events had just happened, but I don't think thats the case. I said all of that to say that I think this video was gratuitous to garner clicks and attention. I think if this was intended to be a PSA for poor hair practices it would have been done differently.

That could also explain the boyfriend’s lack of a reaction. If that were my man or my father, they would have gone in the salon and had words with the braider. But he petted her had and said “I’m sorry.”

@@michaellawilson3491 That's a valid observation Michaella, his reaction is very underwhelming for her to be so upset if it was fresh and in the moment. I think they discussed it before and then decided to record this after for whatever reason. I can't put my finger on why I suspect this though.

AMEN 🙏 My 4c hair is glorious and my journey concerning learning my hair has made me love me more!! Not that length matters but my hair is almost waist length in its coily state. No magic bullet, creams or routines….just low manipulation, moisturize every day ( I’m suppose to), keep my hair protected, while I sleep, detangler, and deep conditioner on a regular basis, and most importantly, no weaves, wigs, or braids

Mr AfrikanHairGod I tried to explain in another one of your videos about blow drying as to what some of these stylists are doing to clients who claim to do natural hair. I did not explain it right and you commented back to me saying it would take just as much time for the stylist to blow dry. What I was trying to explain is there are stylists who claim to do natural hair but will only do it if the hair is washed and blow dried first and some will charge extra if it’s not already washed and blow dried. They say the texture is too much to deal with. See they ain’t you. You earned your title. I saw a video a few months ago and the stylist was telling people that she will reschedule you if you don’t come blow dried or charge extra if she has to do it. It’s unbelievable what’s going on out here with these stylists claiming to do natural hair. If I find the video I’ll send it to you.

THANK YOU!!! I swear somebody needed to say it because I got tired. I've been around for over 30 years and nothing's changed. It's only gotten worse. Now folk are actually paying and tolerating the B.S. I was proud to do natural hair before it was trending. I've never imagined we would get to the point where washing hair in a salon was a sin. I haven't gone to a salon in years because it this very problem. My hair is long, coarse, and prone to matting. Every time I attempted to go to a salon it was a problem, so I just do it my self. I have severe arthritis, lupus with scarring, and my hands break out like yours so I don't do hair anymore. Although my hair is quite long, I don't trust these stylist and charge an arm and a leg when they do shampoo and don't style. I see how you operate love, and first chance I get, I'm coming to you.

I completely agree I just went through this situation at a Haitian/African hair salon. The girls was up in there speaking creole & they didn’t know if I could understand them. While she was braiding my hair she kept asking me was I sleep cause I just closed my eyes while she was braiding my hair. I ignored her. They didn’t say anything disrespectful but they were talking about me & about me marrying a man & how both of us fine. I sent my Husband in there previous a few time before to get his hair styled & I never went with him. When I first went to get my hair braided I told them who I was.. I totally agree that they hold a negative reputation with customer service, but my hair was done nice & they took their time.

I will never allow anyone else in my hair again. For years, I have allowed them to burn my hair with heat and chemicals, snatched my hair out during take down, tied weak weave thread to my sew in...(taking it out is damaging), and said, "your hair is so short and unhealthy". A stylist said, you need a keratin treatment for $400.00. African braiders are the worst... They will pull your hair and your child's hair from the follicles, use an open flame to burn fly-aways up the entire length (burning your natural hair), and treat you like trash the whole time. MANY Black women have the most natural hair hate... Surprise, my natural hair is the most beautiful it has ever been: I now love it, baby it, and value it.
