Interesting! I always knew Tamaulipas and Veracruz harbored runaway slaves from the south, tho they were also encouraged by the Confederacy to return them for a reward. My grandfather is from Veracruz and I'm positive he is of African descent because my sister took an ancestry test and came out with 8% from Congo/Angola region! That's pretty high percentage. Also his wife my grandmother's maiden name was Perrett, which is of French descent, but she was not of African descent, red blondish hair and green eyes. So tho I'm Mexican American, I'm extremely interested and curious to find out about my African ancestor and also if my French ancestor arrived to Mexico during the French-Mexican War or from Louisiana. There is a story my French ancestor got into an argument with an Algerian man that carried a huge scimitar a very bad man and my ancestor choked him with his bare hands. Then dug and hid the body somewhere in an old Mexican ranch. That makes me believe my ancestor might of been a French soldier/legionnaire that got into a disagreement with a fellow French/Algerian soldier because there was an Algerian regiment sent to fight alongside them. Of that I am sure. Wherever my ancestors came from I can't wait to find out and I'm very proud.

@@FreedomIsMineOfficial thank you so much! Hey friend you should look into the black history of Egypt. And if you want something really trippy, to go to the very beginning of Egyptian black history, take a look at Genesis 10. Let me know what you think and read and watch expectantly at what God will reveal to you

Vicente Guerrero is not the only african descendent that was president of Mexico, Juan N. Alvarez Hurtado also was president of Mexico although only for 2 months as interim president and he was afromexican, people call him "the panther of the south".

It's nice to see the wealth of information explained by well documented videos such as this one. I met a couple from Mexico many years ago living in the USA. And the man's wife clearly appeared to have an afro. She simply stated that she was of Native American descent within Mexico and had no African heritage within her. I now understand how difficult it continues to be for some individuals admit any African heritage from places like Mexico and similar countries because of how rampant racism truly is not only in the USA, Canada and other places throughout the Americas. I've noticed that a lot of people living in the USA originally from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central & South America have the convenience of changing their race simply by the culture they're from. I'm not saying it may be all that right, but I can't say that they're all wrong too. This is what racism truly does, it messes with the psyche of a lot of people and makes certain people hate a few things about their ancestry.

Denial is a river in Egypt. Yes, some latinos like to act like they don't know they have African origins but their family pass down these stories that they are just indigenous and white but Africans were brought all over Latin America.

Juan Correa is another important character in Mexican art history: “The prestigious Mexican painter Juan Correa (1646-1716) (...) He was the grandson of Juan Correa, from Villa de Albacete and Juana María, born in Cádiz, who emigrated to New Spain. His father, the well-known surgeon Juan Correa, and his mother, Pascuala de Santoyo, were born there, a free black woman who, before marrying the doctor, had four illegitimate children as a slave, by a gentleman from Santiago named Alonso de Santoyo. When he died, he left her a considerable fortune that served to buy the freedom of the family. But the painter's ethnicity, which was recorded in several documents in which he is called "pardo", that is, mulatto, did not keep him from a brilliant career. Among his great contributions stands out the incorporation of little angels from New Spain, that is, dark or "broken in color", as it was said, with which he wanted to plastically and publicly express the spiritual equality of the human condition, becoming a characteristic hallmark of his work.” He was probably the first painter in the entire continent, to incorporate angels with darker skin in religious paintings. It may not sound like much, but for the time it was very revolutionary. His painting "El niño Jesús con ángeles músicos" shows a mulatto angel. My Mexican art teacher told us that the restorers, over time, have been lightening the skin of the little mulatto angel. Saludos desde México!

Fayida, this was gold! To start, I'm loving the new graphics in your intro! ☺️ Funny, but since I live in the greater Los Angeles area, I often wondered why some Mexicans and Mexican-lineage Americans often appear to be part of the African diaspora. That question is what motivated me to study African history in Mexico. From there, I've been studying African influence in every continent. This is how I became acquainted with your channel! 💡 Anyway, many Mexican-Americans do not know the African hx in Mexico, other than a very limited story about Afro-Cubans migrating to Costa Chica. As with most African hx, the truth is often heavily denied or minimized. Everything you have shared here rings true with my own research on the subject. Thank you for this gem! 💎 By the way, congratulations on your book! 👏🏼🏆🥇I will definitely be purchasing one soon. 😘

But one thing that you must be weary of is that essentially black Americans have Anglo Yank American 🇺🇸 tendencies and opinions, as for the natives and Mexicans we come from a background of agriculture and hard work ethic and strong family ties for generations and sadly it’s something we don’t see a lot of in the states as well is the lack and low morality of Spanish speaking Yankees weather they’re black or white or in between Anglo American Yanks just can’t coup with learning a language that’s not English and we can’t use the exception for the small percentage of those who do learn a new language because they aren’t considered the majority, just an exception, regardless I thought I’d leave my point of view coming from a Mexican background and have lived in Mexico for most of my life growing, I now life in the states but I can see the differences, I hope this gives you a better approach to your teachings and helps with getting them used to their cultures

Enslaved this enslaved that, have you Anglos ever thought to stop and read the reason as to how we became Mexicans in the first place? It’s because we the people of Africanos indigenous mestizos and criollo people of Mexico were liberated as Mexicans and not slaves and servants of the Spanish viceroyalty all Mexicans were essentially considered and treated with basic rights to own their own land and have their own things after independence in 1821 from Spain 🇪🇸
