I have a 2022 and am trading it in for the 2023. I’ve test drove the 2023 and will say this. It’s not fast. But no matter what when getting on the high way I always am up to speed before I go to merge over. If you go 30 and then try to speed up to merge over, yes it will struggle. Don’t drive like your 80. Speed up way before you have to merge over with traffic, very simple. Other then it being slow they are great cars for the price. You want something much faster, we’ll spend 10k more lol. Keep in mind Honda is known for longevity and reliability… not speed.

@soflojoshautoreview 2 жыл бұрын
Oh no I understand that part. By the time I get to merge on to the highway I’m about 50 MPH which isn’t that bad. I primarily think it’s with the CVT transmission or the way they programmed it. From my understanding the Civic has better “shift” points compared to the HR-V. As of right now I’m at 4,448 Miles and I’m happy with it.

Didn’t mean to come off the way it sounds on my comment. It’s just ppl nowadays base what a good car is off how fast it goes. For 30k with everything it comes with is a steal.

I downsized from a '17 CRV to a basic 2023 HRV. At 80 years old I use it to drive around town and make occasional trips on the interstate. The little 2-liter kicks ass and gets me right out when I do. I've got back lumbar and cervical issues so I've had to play around with the seat positions a little. But overall, very happy.

We have the 2023 AWD Sport and love it! We bought for our daughter and I end up driving it for long drives over my Volvo XC90. Agree, it is a little sluggish to accelerate but never have any issues merging or getting up to speed. And once you're cruising it really has a lot of zip. It handles corners amazingly and just a fun car to drive. I feel like its a great value considering all the safety features, technology and heated seats. When I bought my Volvo 4 yrs ago, all those features were considered 'premium', and nice to see Honda makes it standard on one of their smaller cars.

30 yr old here, Honda HRV SPORT . I drive to Florida from north Ga, constantly with my pup, so that’s 950 miles there and back (475 each way) 6 1/2 hour drive. I’ve had no issues. I only need to stop once for gas if i need to just get there. It does the trick if you need a good reliable car. Going on 2 years now. And I’m at almost 60,000 miles on it already. I drive it A LOT! Good car I recommend for sure. Cons-noisy inside on high way, could have better gas mileage sure but does good to me. That’s about it.

Glad I found this. I have a road trip from AZ to WA in September and have been looking at a new HR-V. The issue with acceleration is a big turn off if you're on the highway all the time. My old 2000 Accent had this issue and going uphill after merging was the worst. This is unfortunate to see considering the current price gouging for the more reliable CR-V and Rav4s. Might get the used 2019 Rav4 over this, which is a shame as I would have loved to get a new car for a change. Thank you for your honest review.

Your expectations are too high for a $31,000 CUV. You said you had a lot of boxes packed. Well that is part of your lower gas mileage. Also driving faster on highway will reduce economy. Running A/C will cut gas mileage also. Go back to dealer and have back end facia looked at. You're under warranty. HR-V is not turbo charged but the 2.0 is a reliable engine. You did not purchase a Hot Hatch, so do not expect it to perform like your previous turbocharged engine. The ride quality, usefulness and long term reliability is what you now have. Be Happy.... When I was your age an AM radio was an add on option & 30 mpg unheard of. New cars came with only a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. They did not have safety features & seat comfort was on no ones mind. Thank goodness the Japanese entered US market and made Detroit wake up. Now the only cars I consider purchasing come from Japan.

That's a nice car to save gas. When I always take a trip somewhere, I always like to stop and get gas at a half of tank. And for those chips on the front of the car, I always wash and wax, and use car polish on my car, before I get on the road. That makes it easier for bugs and road debris to come off easy. And when you stop and get gas, wash that stuff off immediately.✨️💯

All Honda’s heated seats are like that, they reduce temp after a short time as a safety feature I’m sure. I previously had a 2018 Honda accord EXL with the leather seats and it did the same thing in that car. I do agree with you that the seats are not the most comfortable even with short distances of 50 miles my behind is sore so I’m just hoping that it’s because it is a brand new car and it needs to just be broken in a little. They really could have amped up the power a little bit especially with all three model trims having the same horsepower. It’s a huge difference for me coming from the accord 2.0 turbo at 252 hp down to 158 but overall I like the car but yes there are several things that I would like to tweak about this vehicle. I do have the sport trim level with the all wheel drive. I will say that the heated seats in the HRV are definitely better than the ones I had in my accord and those were leather but it could be the difference between that being a car several years old and has been brand new.

Awesome review. Heated seat is not good for your nuts unless you're not planning on kids, in my rdx and integra i turn hear to 2 or 1 because it gets too hot, but also safety reasons why your seat heat turns down and maybe go in settings to adjust. Also, you said you're carrying things on you trip plus gf and no vehicles is immune to more weight more fuel used...plus Honda is known for getting better fuel economy over time as well as driving habits. Honda seat lasts a longer time than many other brands, but i do wish more adjustments was available in cheaper models, but i usually get top models. Just remember you can get hondata for more power, but its great for what it is not what it should be. Most importantly, it will outlast your wife's vehicle with proper car care and will still look great even after 2 models years of hers. And body's types and height is a huge factor for seat adjustments weight, and personal experience and lifestyle affects what is considered comfortable.

I enjoyed your review finding it straight forward and to the point. I do not own a Honda HR-V. I do see many of the previous generation on the roads where I live in NJ The redesigned HRV which you have is in my opinion a Civic SUV. The one thing that irks me about the HR-V is the list price for a small SUV! At that price a recent pre-owned certified CX-5, CX-30, RAV 4 or CR-V would be a good alternative. The previous generation depending on year & condition also provide a good value, but they are completely different because they were based on the smaller Fit. The new HR-V appears to a substantial looking SUV while the older version comes across as small compact hatchback. Your review mentioned the front end and some minor inflictions from the highway. Is there a hood deflector that you can clip on to deflect the highway debris? I appreciated your mention of the seat quality. I think that the heated seat feature is on a cycle and is programmed to provide heat for only a prescribed amount of time same as the rear defroster, The lack of cushioning and lumber support does concern me. Perhaps there is an aftermarket cushion available. You discussed the engine and acceleration. I am glad that the HRV has a non turbo engine. GM, Ford & Stellantis all have turbo charged 4-cylinder engines. Many of them are problematical especially the Ford Eco-Boost engines. Your HRV engine will outlast by a significant number of models especially compared to the tin pot 3 turbo charged engine in the Trax & its corporate cousins, which have 2 timing belts! I like the fit and finish of your HR-V. It appears to well-built and a solid smaller SUV. I detected very little road noise. A concern of mine is that Honda uses a soy-based coating on the engine wires which is attractive to pests. Thank you for the comprehensive review, the HRV is on my list of candidates for a future vehicle purchase, Take care & safe driving,

Kia, Hyundai, and Nissan are using the same 1.6L engine in the Rio, Venue, Kicks which can run in Otto or Atkinson cycle, based on engine load and throttle, via some valve trickery. I've seen 43mpg freeway (under 70) on road trips with the Venue. I don't know if Honda uses a similar tech in their non turbo. If you were driving 85, the new American norm, with passenger an belongings, running aircon, 32mog is actually very respectable. You have to view it as mpg vs how much rear leg room. And max storage with the rear folded flat. The trunk in my Venue sucks. I've seen vids of the flat folding 2023 HRV and you have a major advantage. For the number of hours you were sitting in the car you wouldn't have been happy with any seats. Honda needs to include leatherette in the Sport they are so ungenerous.

Ride and comfort is my biggest complaint with my 2009 CRV. That car will wear you out on a long trip. It just isn't comfortable to ride in very long. It is a bit under powered too. I bought the car new and as far as reliability I haven't done anything to that car for going on 14 years other than tires and batteries. They are good cars for knocking around town and they will last forever. For a long trip, I prefer a bigger vehicle. I suspect this HRV will be the same thing.

My 09 CRV has been disappointing on fuel economy. I guess because it is a sport utility vehicle. My 2018 Ford Taurus is just as good on gas as my CRV and it is a lot more comfortable. I had an 81 Honda Accord that got 36-38 MPG on the highway and it was more comfortable. The finish on your B pillers won't likely hold up either if my CRV is any clue.

Thanks for the comments. The seats do feel extremely firm. You don’t notices it when you are at a dealership or test driving it but man do you feel it when you go on long road trips. I will say the suspension in the HR-V is good and isn’t rough. MPG is pretty sad honestly was expecting better from an NA 158 HP motor but got worse. I’ve also noticed that when putting in gas it no longer goes to low 400 and high 300. It now stops consistently at 348 Miles till empty

This was one thing I didn’t understand them doing. The 12V is only in the trunk area. I’ve searched throughout the front of the car and nothing. This makes it very difficult for people to set up dash cams and radar detectors.

We are just picking up a black HRV EXL this weekend for our son who starts USF in the fall. It kind of bugged me how Honda did not have a simple lumbar support and back seat USB ports or an arm rest on the back seat even in this trim. Never owned a Honda before. Mostly Toyotas and Nissans. But now I am driving a Subaru Outback and I love that car. I get 30 MPG Highway in it and it can tow up to 2700 pounds. Anyway, HRV EX-L is very highly rated by IHSS for safety in all sorts of tests. That is why we got it for our son. You mentioned Kia NIRO Hybrid and its speed. Well it does 0-60 in over 7.8 seconds. Honda HRV does 0-60 in 8.6 seconds. Not a lot of difference given one has the extra torque from the Hybrid system and HRV in 2023 is larger. Niro Hybrid just feels like it accelerates faster but it really doesn't by much. The CVT shifting has been smoothed out too much in programming by Honda I think. The Chevy Equinox takes longer to do 0-60 than both of these and so does Jeep Renegade . These are SUVs not a low down smaller Civic to throw around. My wife just got an EUV by VW called ID.4 They state 0-60 in like 6.6 seconds but I can tell you it does it in just over 5 seconds.

That’s great to hear and congratulations to him on getting into USF. When I bought the car they didn’t have safety ratings available but I’m glad it’s an IIHS Top Safety Pick +. Overall after 7k miles I’m happy with it and I’m sure he will as well.

I have 2022 lx AWD I like the car but I don't love it. The seats are way too firm, and the stereo system sucks. So why did I get it ? Well , I was coming from a 2016 Kia Soul. The Soul is way more comfortable to ride in and has a decent stereo. The problem is that it's a Kia. I learned about the engine issues after I bought it and then I heard about all the Kia's being stolen since it was easily hot wired. Hondas reputation is why I went with HRV. I'm thinking of replacing it with an CRV or a Tiguan. Thoughts?

Honestly i understand where you are coming from. Like I mentioned in my previous video that I was looking at the Kona N-Line. That engine is great but the transmission is actually horrible given that it’s a Dry Clutch 7 Speed DCT. I loved the Kona honestly but I got the HR-V due to the monthly payments being down. As for considering the CR-V and Tiguan. It’s a tough choice because both models are great. I do feel that the CR-V is great on handling if you care about that but the interior just felt… cheap. I’ve driven it a couple months ago when it came out but couldn’t film it. Visibility is great in the CR-V so is handling but honestly that’s about it. Seats though we’re definitely comfortable. As for the Tiguan I’ve never driven one. But I do feel like the interior is greater even though it’s becoming dated. You also don’t have a CVT which really messes with how a car performs. Overall I would much rather choose the Tiguan. Now I don’t know if you know but a Next Gen Tiguan should be revealed later this year so maybe just maybe you can get a good price when they are going to switch over to the next gen.

Your vehicle is brand new. It’s a cheap model. The sport comes with tons of options especially safety options which is best in its class. Also, you’re traveling with luggage while expecting the vehicle to get the EPA highway mileage? You made 32-33 MPG with luggage. Get a grip. Want lumbar? But a back suppprt or an ass cushion. Not that hard and saved you at least $6,000 compared to buying the next step up basic CR-V which is overpriced. The HR-V is the better model. Especially the sport with the larger blacked out rims. Sure you’re missing leather seats and I would bet that the heated seats work better there as well. You have heated seats in a very sport base level vehicle. I don’t think the AWD is boosting onto the highway for merges better either. If anything it should be slower. I think that’s a placebo.

Since I really haven’t had any time to do reviews lately I’ll just give you my honest review in writing. I’ve driven her Niro countless times from 3 hrs on the road to about 35 minutes of driving back roads and freeways. With that being said the overall car feels great in both fuel economy and comfortability. She has the touring trim so it comes with extra goodies but one thing I really liked coming from my car is the Torque from the Hybrid system and an actual transmission such as the 6 Speed DCT. Sure the HP is only 139 but the Torque really helps to get you going. The CVT and Engine in mine is very sluggish. As for fuel economy we would fill up with a full tank and average about 50 MPG which compared to the 27 i average. I have been looking and recently stopped someone to talk about their 23’ Niro and they told me it was a huge step up from there Toyota Prius they had. Personally if I wanted to do a retake I would of gotten the 23’ Niro. I hope this helps you out. Feel free to ask me any questions about it.

It seems North America has been screwed with this 2.0L motor. Based on reviews the power delivery is totally differently with the eHEV and 1.4L Turbo power trains. My guess is that Honda thought based on their displacement, US buyers would consider the HR-V to be underpowered. I’m from Australia, and I’m considering a top spec with the Hybrid engine. It’s supposed to be pretty quick too while also efficient. The chassis is also so been described as fun. Again, just a shame the 2.0L is underdone. The feedback on the seats was good to know though.

Curious...Did you use the cruise control during this trip? Only asking cause you should never use one during the break in period. The engine needs to break in throughout the rpm range and cruise controls will keep that from happening. So, for the first 2000 miles or so (every car has different break in periods) you should avoid using the cruise control.

🟦 This is a big civic. I dont understand why they did not offer the 1.5T in the top trim. Maybe because the hybrids are coming or to get people into the more expensive CRV. Either way the HRV & the Civic are not highway cruisers. But more than adequate for day-to-day use. A seasoned traveler once offered up some advice to me as a young person. He would place a thin layer of Vaseline all along the front of his car for interstate travel. It helped with the chipping but the biggest benefit was the how easy the bug guts washed away.

Thank you for the comment. For me on long road trips the seats aren’t very cushiony. Most of the time my lower back hurts from how tough the material they used on the seats are. Our of curiosity, why were you turning on the seat heating this time of year, from Florida to Texas? I can't imagine having anything on but the a/c. Also, do you think a (folded) manual wheelchair would fit in the cargo area *without* needing to fold down either of the rear seats?
@soflojoshautoreview
@soflojoshautoreview 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the reviews of the HR-V! I try to be as truthful about big financial decision making such as buying a car. As for the reason I turned on the heated seats. Sadly the HR-V does not come with Lumbar support no matter which trim you choose to get. My girlfriend and I’s back were hurting from the long drive. We stopped every now and then to get gas. Since this is the case, we had to use to heated seats to make our bottom and back feel better from the almost 20 hour trip we took. The A/C ran fine we usually kept it in LO with fan speed at 2. For the trunk area fitting a folder wheelchair I would say it probably could fit but I would recommend to see one and test it out. The cargo volume is rated at 24.4 cubic feet. If you fold the seats it comes in at 55.1 cubic feet. I hope this info helps you out!
