$1 million net worth for two people in 10 years is paltry af in this economy. I'd be existentially angsty myself if I were her. But I understand how Dave has to spin this. Ultimately, she better reevaluate and adapt the plan to something that is rigorously honest and customized *for themselves* and stop looking to everyone else to tell them what to do.

@@nathanielglaze4810 Dave Ramsey might not know what house hacking is off the top of his head, because I've heard him give a reasonable answer when asked about buying an owner occupied duplex-quad. I don't really see how a house can be considered an asset unless it is a rental or some kind of flip(and only after it has flipped for profit). I wouldn't even consider my owner occupied duplex an asset right now, because it doesn't cash flow with me living in it. Which is why we are planning to move into another owner occupied duplex-quad. @@steve-on3234 She has no reason to be worried. Being worth 1 million in your 40s is doing just fine. Stay the path for 20 more years until 65 and they will be multi-millionaires. Her husband works as an electrician for a public utility. That means almost certainly he will have a pension in addition to their 401k. He's almost certainly gets medical, dental, vision and prescription drugs which likely will continue into retirement. 100k also sounds like that's coming entirely, or at least mostly, from the husband. He started at 65k and over 10-20 years of work he's at 100k salary. That's pretty typical of public sector work for skilled workers. Over the next 20 years she can accelerate their wealth building if she looks to improve her own income. Overall these folks are doing just fine and will have a comfortable retirement. @@OTOWN2STOCKTOWN She knows that is the answer - which is why she was so quick to shoot down the idea (even when Dave didn't suggest it). A $700K house for a couple making $105K is extremely expensive. She doesn't get to have cake and eat it too - she can stay in the house and have much of her money go there, sell the house and move into some place more commensurate with her income or increase her income so that it better fits her home. Frankly, while she claims she has been "listening" to Dave for 10 years, I would be surprised if the home ever fit within Dave's home mortgage guidelines. To paraphrase Dave, you don't get a pass on math just because you live in Seattle.

With 100k household income you will likely never feel wealthy. Paying off the house isnt going to help you feel any better until its paid off. Focus on increasing your income and cash flow if you want to "feel" wealthier. Cash flow is equally or more important than accumulation in the wealth building processs. Excellent analysis & commentary. So many of Mr. Ramsey's supporters overlook how his bankruptcy actually HELPED his recovery & boosted his chances to be where he is today. If he had followed the same advice he tells his audience, he would still be working towards his first $1Million and not have rental properties & national show. Notice that most callers have at least a $100K annual income, as Mr. Ramsey puts it "a big shovel"; most of his callers will be out of debt (not including home mortgage, how convenient) in 3 to 5 years. So what about those that have national average income based on their ages? It's more likely to take 5 - 10 years to eliminate their debts (excluding mortgage), and that's just getting to *ZERO* Net Worth. The dirty little secret Mr. Ramsey doesn't tell his audience is he is not just a worker, he is & has always been an entrepreneur, which is a totally different mindset with different results.

Ohhh how big of a problem is only making 105k a year, owns 700k home and 200k in retirement. Here I am owing 90% of my home. Only 24k in 401k and like 200 in savings making 80k a year.

Because it changes daily (by the minute even) and most people can't draw from it without penalties for decades. What's the big point in checking on an account that has money I can't touch?

This is the problem with social media. A lot of people doing the good work look out to social media and are down on their lives because they envision others flaunting are doing better when they are liking in debt and miserable. This is heart breaking

I agree. Many people are comparing themselves to others on social media. They don’t realize that most of these attention seeking influencers are only posting what they want to be portrayed as and not their flaws and downside of things.

Everyone is crediting her. She hasn't done anything except scroll on TikTok and dream about instant riches. Her husband has done very well and continues to do very well. She continues to doubt him. I'd bet she's about two steps away from filing for divorce and looking for a bigger better deal.

She thinks a millionaire is having that in the bank and ready to spend, not having it invested into real estate property and stocks.

I kinda think this too, maybe not the stocks part. She just sees a house as a house, and not part of the million dollar status. Which I think a lot of people dont, including myself honestly, I understand it, but I still dont see it that way exactly. If that makes sense. Not being a millionaire, unless you have it in the bank/stocks/CD’s etc.

Well Allison, let's get real. If you're comparing yourself with Ramsey, you need to become a finance guru and write multiple books. Come up with a schtick like Dave did, his persona is religious southern grandpa and a lot of financially-illiterate people like that. That's how he did it, he didn't work and save every year.

So many people want to see $$$ in their chequing account. When they don’t see that they think they are not doing well.

They are doing great! I wish I was where they are right now! Almost 40 $387,000 mortgage, only 20k in retirement 😭 no debt but keep having to use our emergency fund to fix our house and cars!
