I love the thinking... enough oil off the engine to keep them lubricated and easy to remove. Brilliant!

I do appreciate the effort to film jobs like this, my concern would always be getting the camera filthy.

Yeah, I'm still using the same camera I started with 18 months ago and it's got some battle scars!

You can use power tools to run stainless fittings but you need a lubricant on the threads to prevent gauling between the nut and the bolt threads

That sounds about right. Cheers for the info.

Very important for steering feel...

The steering damper is an essential component on the Defender, especially on the short wheelbase, but you have the bolt in round the wrong way, it was inserted from the back when you took it off, now, in 30 years time, the owner will not be able to knock it back out like you had to, a good idea to slather it in copperslip as well.

I didn't use copperslip as it's a stainless bolt but I guess it wouldn't hurt. You can still knock the bolt out from the back.

Can you do a video talking about and comparing different steering damps and their uses?

WD40 ? Why? It’s a water dispersant. Plus gas,deep creep etc would work a lot better. Old man emu dampers are also very good. Good effort in what looks like a hot muggy day to work. 😎👍

I did all the springs & dampers on my 110 last month. What a ball ache that was with corroded nuts & bolts. Even with penetrating they wouldn’t budge, so it was grinder time which was a long haul also as all 4 corners needed doing. I might take a look at damper as it’s pretty old as I replaced it around a decade ago. Must admit being 60yrs old and working on my drive and only using trolley jacks I could have quite easily torched that Landie after compressing those springs. It was like looking down a barrel of a gun and I even wore my motorbike lid for protection 😂

Checked mine and the chassis mounting bracket is rusted through at the welds :(
@LRLiveUK4 ай бұрын
You might be able to replace it with one of these. www.lrparts.net/nrc4656-bracket-steering-damper-to-chassis-rhd.html

Are the return RTC dampers any good for general road use?
@LRLiveUK4 ай бұрын
They work fine but are a little bit more aggressive so you're working the steering a bot more thsn you would normally on the road.
