After 7 Years, the Wixoss TCG is FINALLY Getting Localized

The Wixoss Trading Card Game will finally be in English this Winter! But with so many TCGs in 2021, it's going to need a lot of help--so let's talk about why Takara doing this now, years after the fans gave up.

Boy, if that isn't the dream...I wonder if they'd be better off applying this strategy to Duel Masters instead. Start us off at the beginning of the next major block, or back at the first set of DM2017, and continue from there.

Always been curious about Wixoss, so I'm excited. Course, no simulators means I'll just have to watch online matches, but better than nothing. Problem is it only starting in America. You just know that good-looking cards with cute girls are gonna get passed over because they don't look "cool" or are too "creepy" for burgerland, which will absolutely hurt sales.

I was bummed when Wixoss went idol. The old anime wasn't amazing, but it was great edgy fun! I like to pick up pairs of starter decks as a curio, but the current Debut Decks don't appeal to me much. You know, usually each deck will sell you a different fantasy, like magic vs. brute strength. Here it's like, "do you want blue moe or red moe?" Tangential, but: Takara Tomy also makes Mazica Party, a game with scratch-off, thermal-inked cards. For some reason, they decided the mascot character of the franchise should be violently popped like a balloon as a recurring punchline. I imagine the popularity of certain Pixiv tags will change in 5 years or so... Oh, but anyway, they should do that for Wixross. Bubble porn parallel foils! Otaku furiously rubbing their L-rigs to reveal once-per-game effects like it's Monster Monpiece!

After watching this video, I've proceeded to binge the first two seasons of the anime and now i'm hooked xD Will definitely pick up the starter decks, but sadly having to import it all the way from NA is a bit much..

Although VG is older than Wixoss， their way of development is really similar. They both decided to open new formats, different time though. The news of ENG version IS excited, but it really made we CN players feel complex since Tomy does not want to try CN version again. On the other hand, CN players who are still insist playing wixoss had spent money for Diva for a while. I believe if we also get Chinese version as ENG version at the same time, we may get new players again...but the old problems is that players for now may have to worried about if they should spend money for this version again, and if we still can believe the company can run it better and longer than last time. By the way, here is a guessing. The company -游卡 that ran the CN version wixoss prefered to run Ultraman cards since the latter game seems to make money much easier from children, 游卡 gave up first though， then it run the Ultraman bussiness. （My reply is keep being deleted？？）

I'm excited for Wixoss but idk how much I'd invest in it. I'm happy for Wixoss fans though. However I'm deep into Digimon hell so that's my priority for card games now lol. And sadly I think caster chronicles got cancelled lol. I got a free deck at an event to play with to learn the game, then ended up getting 1st in a big playmat tournament with said deck.

it's crazy how we used to play this during year one of it's release by printing out the english translation and inserting it in the card protector with the card. although didn't last long cause no one was really playing it in our area. and it looked simpler before LOL

Interested to see how this is going to play out in the realm of niche (non-big-3) card games. Similar to what you said in the video, the chances are not looking hot for Wixoss, despite how much I loved the first two seasons of the anime. On the one side, the big three are facing all kinds of issues with stores pulling their product from shelves because of the scalper wave earlier this year (at least in my part of the USA, no idea what the situation is like in other parts of the US, or in other parts of the Western world). However, MTG is basically invincible as it's *the* card game, as is Pokemon, since it's just part of the wider Pokemon franchise. Yugioh is a bit more vulnerable than the other two, but is probably mostly safe from any real loss of prestige because of nostalgia points. On the other side, though, there seems to be a bit of over-saturation going on in the realm of niche card games going on recently. CFV rebooted earlier in the year, but seems to have mostly stabilized due to the changes to the core gameplay being positively received. However, things aren't rosy, as the OverDress anime was more or less an unmitigated disaster, and CFV got hit with similar (but not nearly as abysmal) supply problems that plagued Digimon during its launch, resulting in price inflation on the secondary market. Meanwhile, Digimon seems to have recovered from its initial supply problem, with sneak kits for the next set making to a large number of stores in the US. Couple this with CFV stumbling but not quite falling and nostalgia for Digimon always chugging along, and you've got a Digimon Vs. CFV showdown that's looking a lot like the old Kaijudo Vs. CFV showdown from 2012-2014, but the outcome doesn't seem nearly as obvious as that one did back in the day. I can't comment on DBS as much as the others as I don't have a scene for it near me, but I imagine things are going well enough for them on name brand recognition alone, as long as Bandai doesn't throw it overboard to prioritize Digimon. If anyone out there cares, LMK how things are looking for DBS. Lastly, that leaves us with Wixoss (Gate Ruler I assume is doomed to fail from the word go). I don't have the confidence that it can play the nostalgia card as well as something like Digimon/DBS/Yugioh/etc. can to get people in the door, and HOO BOY I doubt most prospective new players are going to be comfortable with the card art. Couple that with the fact that the primary target audience (weebs) is already split between CFV/Digimon/etc. over here, and you have a recipe for disaster brewing. Anyway, love the video as always, even if it's more of a minor update than a deep dive. I didn't even know there was a FF TCG lol.

I'm more concerned about Distribution since even Digimon and Yu-gi-oh have been having a rough time of it the past year in the TCG and seeing another card game that might be banished to being only available at local card shops is what might kill it more. If bigger retailers like Target and Walmart sell them instore like the big three or even Force of Will when was still kind of chugging along in 2015-2016 it might be better for sales and keep the game afloat longer. But I don't see this game lasting a year unless it spreads by word of mouth that it's good. As long as it lasts longer than Luck and Logic that might be enough though, lol.

North America only? EN Wixoss is going to struggle hard because of this. It's audience is scattered across countries in small portions, yet they chose to release it only to one of them.

It hasn't been confirmed that it's *not* coming elsewhere, this is just the first announcement we've had of anything at all. (It was a single slide in an otherwise-unrelated presentation targeted at the Japanese audience.) A lot of TCGs have their regions announced gradually.

I'm happy for Wixoss fans, but whether I play or not might depend on how much of the cards straight look like little girls. Cause after a point I might start to feel a bit creepy. If that mobile game comes out here (somehow), I may try that first before bothering with a physical product.

It’s what make the game unique it’s mechanic are great and the arts of the cards too
