Here is my After Action Report of the Rye Field Fehrmann. Overall it was a quick build and is pretty solid. As before we have issues with the side fender and I had to trim the bracket for holding up the commanders hatch.
I gave this kit an 88% out of 100 as it has some inaccuracies. But overall the value for money is great. The parts are clean, the tracks are workable and very well done. Zimmerit needs to be added, but sets from Atak would fit this as the proportions match Dragon pretty well.
When I say in the video the Early and Late tracks are the same, what I mean is they are built the same way but this kit should have had late tracks on it. I just didn't see the point in waiting to do those to post the video.

This is what a post build review should be like. The good and the bad. Adam I like that you are self effacing too. NIce to see Dragon getting some competition. It would be interesting to hear what Dragon internally says about Rye Fields. Let’s go Tamiya get in there and make one of these big kits.

Thanks very much. It does seem like the new Chinese competition is having an impact on the kits made by Tamiya and Dragon now.

That looks sick! Awesome job on the zimmerit by the way...sint be too hard on yourself about it because it looks great. I'm really interested in trying one of these RFM Tigers now (one where I don't need to add zimmerit to it though!) so I'll try to pick on up someday soon.

I was impressed with this kit when I saw your initial review and am soon planning on getting my own based on that review. I'm happy to see you mentioning the leftovers. Like you I'm all for the added value. if I remember right, didn't this come with a set of PE zimmeritt tools ? That's another reason I want one. I recommend you don't use Miliput but instead use Squadron Green Stuff. It's been the standard for as long as kits that need it have been available and I've used it for decades with good results. I've always used a pair of Xacto micro saw blades. one regular and one bent for use in tight areas. Using Green Stuff work on an inch or so at a time and you get the depth by spreading it with the blade as you work. Another reason for only working a small area at a time. FYI, the real stuff was colored with dunkel gelb before it was put on with a special trowl. Have you used the tools from the kit yet ? I'm curious as to how well they worked. I'd like to see you try it. The only issue I see with this kit is it has too many different tanks to choose from !!! Also another reason I want one ! LOL ! Good job !

I didn't try their tool, and I probably should have. Doing ZImmerit is tough, I can see why the Atak sets exist. This thing is well worth the price I think.

+Adam Mann I fully agree with you Adam. If I may suggest, why don't you do a video using the tools ? Attitude is the key in doing zimmerit. It isn't as difficult as it looks. It wasn't neatly applied so you don't have that issue. Just remember to do small areas at a time and change the tool position up or down a little for each vertical row and don't worry about being neat too much. The only real issue is not to get the rows too big.

Maybe you have more control using green stuff for the zimmerit. Im using it for ages with good results. More thin more obedient and the green gives you better contrast so you can see what you are doing and what you are contaminating. You can mix green stuff with milliput if you wich.
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 8 жыл бұрын
I'm hearing that a lot. The milliput just gave me a hell of a time. I'll have to try green putty.

Adam, I just back into modeling German tanks after a long lay off. When I was looking for reference videos, I came across one that used the techniques listed in Rinaldi's tank book #1. Specifically the hair spray technique. I know you use Pledge, but would you have any idea who put that build and paint video out. I currently have about 20 of your video's and used your video on which Tiger 1's to build. Thanks for your help.

I don't I'm sorry. There are tons of people using that technique though. Maybe qdc? Any Tiger help you need just ask.

Adam - anything to say about how these kits compare to Bolt Action tank models? I'm just now getting into Bolt Action and hadn't really even thought of using alternate brand tanks/etc. Any input whther it be what you have heard/read etc would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the good work! I'm just recently returning to "the hobby" in general if you will and my only regret was taking so long to get back into "it" (war games, painting for games and just for painting, exploring the myriad sites and forums - I haven't painted/etc since I was about 13-14 and I''m now back "in" both historical WWII, Hail Caesar, and enjoying some models for Age of Sigmar as well as trying to get more friends "in" via X-Wing etc. I'm more into WWII and Vietnam than = well...I'm super into them and have probably watched unheard of numbers of documentaries especially on WWII , so getting back to my Query - I'd like to know how much bang for the buck and scale (damnit its gotta be 28mm) - would love to hear your input on tanks but half-tracks and whatnot as well. Warlord games Tanks are probably best for the game , perhaps some models of favourite tanks I'd do if theyr'e really top notch - thanks again PS- extras in any kit are a GREAT thing.

Bolt action is a much smaller scale, this is 1/35 and I think Bolt Action is 1/54? These are way way more accurate, but of course much more complicated.
