Gold in people's teeth? When did dentistry gold fillings start in history?
@JakeAtFlashback3 ай бұрын
Ah - yes, I see how that was misleading. No - the Romans didn't have gold fillings (I don't think) - but they would have had gold in their mouths. Gold replacement teeth (early form of dentures, I guess) were common in Rome- a habit they picked up from the Etruscans. Whether out of individual teeth or out of mouths, the point is that scavengers would be pulling gold out of a very unpleasant place to be digging around!

Yet another good video. I'm genuinely surprised you don't get more attention considering how good the content is, sure having sources in the description or something would be nice but I'm like most people and wouldn't check the sources anyway and I trust the schtuff you put out is factual.

Those tasked with retrieving the wounded, and stripping the dead had an immensely putrid task ahead of them. Waiting too long to clean up the battlefield posed further health risks to the survivors. Hours after the battle, the field would be rife with blood and bowels. By the third day, such a field would be exponentially more pungent. I feel strongly that expedient burial had more to do with the ancient's comprehending disease, and less about the afterlife.

The story of the blinded men & the one left sighted, is this verified? I have heard essentially the same story but involved 1 in 100 men being left a single eye to guide the others home, & it was the Byzantines doing it to Serbian revolterw in that tale. Not saying you’re story is incorrect as I have no idea which is true, if either. Anyone able to help?
@JakeAtFlashback3 ай бұрын
@ddc2957 honestly I don't think any of them actually happened We have records for quite a few instances but - I don't think anyone would actually go through all the work to send that message, and I don't think the blind could have been lead home over those kind of distances It's probably just an exaggerated horror story I might be wrong though!
@МартинРупски3 ай бұрын
Yes, the byzantine blinded every 99 out of 100 Bulgarians, so the people with one eye will guide them back to the Bulgarian king. After he saw it, he had a heart attack and died.
