if there was a foot rest on the cross it wouldnt be as bad than if there wasnt one also i believe the brazen bull death is worse than a crucifixion that has a foot rest

My grandfather and great grandmother were held in a Japanese civilian camp Bangkinang at the female section of the camp, they fortunately made it out and survived they were “lucky” with their guards they never spoke about their time there which I respect. Once the war ended they were held in the camp until the British and Canadian troops deployed there brought them to Batavia (Jakarta) on transport to the Netherlands.

Another great video. Having grown up knowing about so many of these horrors, I have always wondered what it was like when the "innocent" world learned about these things. In the US, it wasn't until the Civil War that the civilian population was confronted with actual photographic evidence of the horrors of the battlefield. WWI brought more evidence of the degradation of war, and the world was still innocent enough to be shocked by the Holocaust. Before photographs and film, you had only words or pictures and could still comfort yourself with the thought that they were probably "exaggerations" of events. But people found they could no longer avail themselves of that comfort when faced with cold hard reality. Of course, nowadays people blame a.i. when they don't want to believe something.

Even more a grisly fact, when the coarse nails pierced the wrist it can penetrate the median nerve. This can send excruciating waves of pain through the body, and every time the condemned on the cross lifts up to get a breath, to stop his suffocation, it can start the process all over again. Truly an awful way to die.

What people preaching Jesus’ sacrifice here so often fail to get is that it was religious legalism that Jesus resisted and that’s what moved the religious authorities to depict him as an enemy of Rome. They feared his truth that they were too fixed on tradition. Rather than learn from their mistakes, Christianity became in its conservative forms a corrupt and legalistic institution bent on power and authority. That’s Christian Nationalism in the US and even Pope Francis says his own church is f’d up that way. Legalism crucifies Jesus every day.

"When people are collectively traumatized, they become better" How am I supposed to be better when I still feel a wound in my mouth from my dad hitting me because I was a slow-thinking Asian kid who couldn't solve a math problem

Hey; That's awful to hear, I'm sorry that happened to you. My point was just about "collective trauma" - I,e trauma inflicted on an entire community like a pandemic or a war. Individual trauma definitely does not work this though - as I'm sure you understand All the best and thanks for commenting

Hey Jake when you mentioned the Tang dynasty a video idea popped up into my head I’d love to see your take in a video about the horrible conditions of siege warfare for example the siege of Suiyang which is related to the fall of the Tang dynasty. Or the siege of Oostende during the 80 years war as another example. I think it’s a rather dark side of human history but shows our resilience.

Can you tell me where in the Bible does it say John was crucified ? As far as I know John the Baptist was beheaded and John the beloved deciple was boiled in oil yet somehow survived and was banished to the island of Patmos and was years later released, he lived to an old age preaching the Gospel 🤓
