I just remember seeing him in Pursuit of Happiness and Karate Kid and thinking "You know, this kid has chops. He's going places." And I also thought he was the only good thing about the Day the Earth Stood Still remake. So I'm watching him and Will in this movie and thinking "Why does it feel like all the talent from these two got sucked out?! Who directed/wrote this?" *looks up director/writer* "Ah! That explains everything."

I think originally the twist ending would be we find out "it was earth all along" but studio heads got in there and scrambled everything up

I don't like this movie either. It's a bad film. But I don't understand how it is considered a box office bomb or flop. It made over $230 Million dollars against a $130 Million budget. So they got their money back then some right? Unlike a movie like Gotti that had a $10 Million budget & made only $7 Million not even making their money back. Can someone help me understand how the whole Box Office Bomb thing works money wise? I get the critical side of it. It was horrible.

But factoring in marketing budget too. Marketing budget is separate from the production budget. Sure the budget is $130 million but add about $100 million to $150 million in addition to the budget then the movie lost around $50 million.

This about the best work and effort into science fiction Joss Whedon's Firefly! And I by that I men no effort what so ever. Like Firefly, After Earth is a piece of shit. But at lest After Earth made actually laughed where Whedon constantly fails, where he makes me wants to set on fire whenever his characters talk. I give this a Rental, which is what I did watching it.
