Awesome tutorial. I've never used AE before, so it was great that you went through each step and shortcut key. I just wanted to add that the Convert Audio to Keyframes step can take a while for long .wav files (mine was 4 minutes) during which time AE doesn't give you any indication it's doing anything. So you might think it didn't work, but just give it a minute or two and it'll suddenly show up.

Awesome! You can also use Trapcode's Soundkeys plugin for a lot more control for the audio amplitude. You can visually specify what part of the audio to read (like high bass only) and also add exponential falloff. But it costs some dough.

For the black solid, you could have copied the mouth layer and then put an effect on it to make it black. I just used ramp effect and set both colors to black May just be easier and more exact

Just found the video and got stuck on that part too!!! Make sure you're under the Panels Animation tab, this allowed me to resize the image that I clicked on (or the black solid in this case). Hit the two arrows upper right hand corner near Libraries to get to this tab. GG! still works in 2018 cc After Effects! #adobe

the expression did not work as intended for me, but i think i know why and was able to modify it. the mp3 file i used must have a higher volume setting. the *10 portion made the mouth go crazy. i instead divided by 2 and it's just what i was looking for. heads up for folks having issues, this guy's video is a great help!! Don't forget once you get it just right you can save it in your expressions presets and apply super quick to future videos

Hey I'm new to after effects. This Tutorial really helped me make some silly stuff! Just wondering can you make the wiggle effect be controlled by sound key frames? Was thinking of making the head bobble around as well (possibly with the wiggle effect, unless theres something betterr?). Any idea how that would be able to work? Hopefully might bring a little more life to it and maybe react to the speech in a weird funny way. So I guess to clarify for myself, when there is no audio, no reaction. When audio is present dependant on the amplitude is how randomly/excited it moves, preferably not too far from the neck. Love the tutorials! cheers 😁

Hey Robert . I would REALLY like to know how to make a dialoge instead of just one person talking. I see that other people has asked the same question, and have had the same issue as me when trying to do it on their own. The two characters end up talking at the same time. I know its about making different layers and connecting the different amplitudes right, and so far Ive managed to make one of my characters stick to his voice, but as soon as the other starts talking, they both talk. Please please please help if you know how to :-) And thx for the tutorial by the way!Cheers, Sebastian

The best thing I think about you is, you explain in the "Newbie/Layman's" terms, without just "clicking away" with ur Mouse and not explaining what ur doing, like other Vid's. . Are the last comments pertaining to we that JUST get the free trial, don't have ????? I have sent Email to Adobe, but won't hold my breath. 2) - I noticed when I "experimented" with NOT just one .wav song, but 3, I got a "Caution Cone" w/o the "term term". It mentioned layer(I did have the audio above on top). It happens after I quick whip to Slider. THX !!!, keepem coming.

+Victoria Vu (CW) It means the movement of the jaw. The higher the number, the more the mouth moves. I had to use .15 Hope this helps

What if we have two characters on the screen??? Even if I link each character to each "voice", I have them doing the same movement. I'm not finding out how to keep one mouth stopped when the other is talking.

temp = thisComp.layer("Audio Amplitude").effect("Both Channels")("Slider") * 3; [position[0], position[1] + temp] temp is = to the layer which is audio and effect both channels and slider. so you are basically times those by 3 then the program is getting the position 0 (x) and position 1 (y) + temp. so temp is the above line * 3. then it uses the position say x = 900 and y = to 292 then + temp which is the audio and sliding the image up and down. 2018, If you're still even on #youtube I hope this helped. hehehe

hey man, i ran into the same issue with 3/4 heads and needing to make them talk. I came across this code that will work. You need to take your dialogue and set it up for keyframe assist first and then connect your rotation of your mouth to it with a pig whip to the "both channel slider" and then use this expression: thisComp.layer("Audio Amplitude").effect("Both Channels")("Slider")/0.4 you can change the rotation over at the '/0.4' section and fit it to your purposes. Hope that helps

I haven’t done much video editing on the iPhone but I use iMovie on my Mac and there is an iMovie app you might try. Talkr lets you have multiple clips so you can create a conversation with it. You can download additional voices too from the iPhone settings menu.
