I having been using After Effects for a while now and am average with it. I am always interested in learning new things with it, and came across your tutorial. This was hands down a great tutorial. Nothing left to want. Simple, concise, educational...you really should consider doing more, or teaching this type of thing if you already don't. Well done!

I honestly can't decide whether to use After Effects, Flash, or Premiere. I think I am going to go with After Effects as I like the how it is not vector based but I don't know which one is best for animating. What do you think?
@jessejayjones9 жыл бұрын
+ItsJoeartANDRart They're all very different programs for very different uses! But you should definitely use what helps you tell your stories! Flash you can draw in, where Premiere and After Effects you have to import all of your images, that's the main difference! :)

It really depends on what form of animation you want to do. If you want to do hand drawn animation, definitely go for Flash. As for After Effects or Premiere, Premiere is for compiling all the footage you have into a final video, it is for editing the final video. There is only a limited number of effects you can use in Premiere. However, After Effects is not meant for editing a long video. AE (After FX) is meant for adding effects to clips, which can then be compiled into Premiere and edited and exported together to make the finished product. What is done in this video cannot be done in Premiere, but get Premiere and either Flash or After Effects for animation. Flash for hand drawn animation, and AE for keyframe based animation, like what Jesse is doing here. Hope I helped!

So each layer have like a dotted outline right? It shows you where the layer ends. Like every time you select a new layer you get a box, that box is the layer and you can stretch and scale right? well how do i turn off show all of them at once? because I have about 6 boxes showing at once and its hard to focus on one layer with all these gray lines everywhere
@jessejayjones8 жыл бұрын

Hey Jesse! I'm new to this channel and animation in general. What is your favorite software for animating? What software do you recommend for simple, barely moving talking characters? I don't really want to delve too deep into animation. All I really want is the ability to make a simple character that I can use as a puppet for videos, and the ability to animate simple cute stuff for my girlfriend. Thanks!

How would you do this if the 'character' you had was in a tribal design? I've tried it but it keeps moving things separately to other parts, even thought they're the same image.
@jessejayjones9 жыл бұрын
You need to parent parts to the layers they're supposed to be attached to. So for example, parent a shoulder pad to the arm!
@DarthTribal9 жыл бұрын
But it's all one layer. How do I do that?
@jessejayjones9 жыл бұрын
If it's all on the same layer, it shouldn't be able to move separately. Not sure what the issue would be.
