I saw this tour in 2007 at BB Kings in NYC and Floor was just absolutely mindblowing.......she always had it , way before she joined Nightwish......she auditioned as a backup singer for After Forever at 16 yrs old and Mark Jansen knew right away she was a lead singer .

@@MerchantOfAlba you are both a joy to watch, can you please make your music video box larger ? when you have done reactions that have cc text it's impossible to read due to the small size of video box, you can find that the most successful reactors have actually put the music video in the background screen with a smaller screen for the reactors, which hi lites the focus of the reaction. cheers

Guys there is a video of After forever from a TV show performing "Monolith of doubt", I think she was 21 years old there and OMG you can tell she was a star already. Intrinsic is another song that I really enjoy from them, there is a video of a live performance too of that one, but the quality image is not as good, but I don't know I just like it a lot, Floor melts my face. Nightwish is unbeatable, but it is so interesting to me seeing her with her old band being so young and already so incredibly talented and charismatic. She was born to be on stage.

Floor was born with a beautiful voice, one in ten million, and she has worked, studied, trained, performed, and now has crafted it into a one in ten billion voice. I love great vocals from any genre, never heard anyone like Floor. No human being should be able sing that well.

Agreed! Although I don't like most of what she sings (not my cup of tea), I do agree that she has the greatest voice and stage presence of any female singer living right now. She is just a bit too wild for my taste, but that's me, not her.

Floor joined After Forever at the age of 16 as a backup singer. The first time she sang with them she was promoted to the lead singer. After Mark Jansen (no relation) left the band in 2002 to form Epica, Floor became one of the main lyrists for the band After Forever. The keyboard player Joost van den Broek wrote most of the music. After Forever disbanded in late early 2009. Floor says she was crushed that the band decided they wanted to break up.

I think she was crushed by the end of her long term relationship with the lead guitarist. It was an ugly breakup and contributed to a lot of the anger and darkness in Revamp songs. I also think it informed some of the lyrics in her Northward song While Love Died. Given how the relationship ended there was no way the band could stay together.

First group Floor was After Forever, where she began singing at the age of 16, After Forever was a Dutch symphonic metal band with strong progressive metal influences.The band relied on the use of both soprano vocals and death growls, in the After Forever group, Floor wrote songs, in this group she used her soprano voice a lot, in songs she mixed soprano vocals with Eastern, Arabic singing and other styles. Floor had a second group, ReVamp, this group was created by Floor, Floor wrote songs, she did almost everything to the smallest detail herself in this group, in this ReVamp group, she could go over deep growling to full opera singing.

The band was full of exceptional talent. Did very well without ever hitting the big time. But, in addition to Floor, you had Joost van den Broek on keyboards, who still collaborates with Floor (played Piano on her home-recorded version of Alone) and collaborates with Arjen Anthony Lucassen on his Ayreon and Star One projects, and founder member, Mark Jansen (no relation), who had left at this point (2002) but went on to form Epica.

Yeah, witnessing how good this band was pretty much explains Floor's devastation when it all came to an unexpected end in 2009 leading up to her burnout. In hindsight it looks like Fate had a higher calling for her.

Haha.. two more After Forever fans! And you guys - having watched that lovely Rock Academy Reunion docu in Tampere, can now fully understand what it meant to Floor to lose this legendary band that she joined in 1997 when she was only 16yrs old. There'll be other commenters who will be recommending other AF gems, like "Pledge Of Allegiance", like this version: "After Forever - My Pledge of Allegiance 1 (Live 2007)". To which I can only say: "I concur!" As to the Nightwish connection.. that was already there years before, since both bands toured together in 2002/2003. Also: one of Floor's early inspirations was Anneke van Giersbergen (Dutch godmother of smile metal) from "The Gathering" (check out "Travel" TG25..), a band that Tuomas has mentioned many times as one of his early inspirations as well. Listening her earlier stuff IT IS obvious that Tuomas called her Back then 😃 I think he knew he wanted her in NW..If there ever was a slightest question mark it would have been about chemistry between her and band. How lucky we are that IT worked more than well too 🥰

When Floor finished that high note, you can see the keyboardist clapping his hands! That is Joost van den Broek, Floor’s friend and musical companion since at least 1996. He had a lot of influence on the composition of the AF songs. (The growling boy’s name is Sander, at that time Floor’s boyfriend, the end of their relation was also the end of AF)

I see some similarities with the break up between Nightwish and Tarja, thanks to that we have The Poet and the Pendulum (and more). Personally I like Floor the most in After Forever. Not because it's necessarily better then Nightwish, but imo her personality comes more across in this music.

Floor was very lucky with Nightwish, but also Nightwish is very lucky to have Floor. Half of this band After forever became....Epica. Simone is a very good friend of Floor, they were roommates during their opera and theatre studies and Floor still has good contact with the guitarplayer (with nice old skool voice) After forever was a pretty famous band all over the world and she met the guys from Nightwish now and than during festivals...they knew how good of a singer she is. One of a kind.

The growler and guitarist on the left, Sander Gommans, was a long-term boyfriend of Floor's. Their split coincided with the termination of After Forever (the band went into a period of hibernation when he was off ill, and never came back). A few of Floor's ReVamp songs are about the problematic nature of their relationship.

Floor started as a backup vocalist in this band. After a short time they realized she deserved more lead vocal lines. The growling guitarist in this band is Mark Jansen (no relation). He is also the lead guitarist for Epic right now. loved it!

I believe they made tree albums after Mark Jansen left. This one is from the last album and it is composed by Joost van den Broek. It can't be Mark Jansen at this stage, it is Sander. There is a FaceCulture interview split in two were Floor and Joost talk about this last album. They were of full hope this would be a new fase for the band.

I preferred After Forever back then, instead of Nightwish. I had never seen an artist like Floor being able to switch among any genre, with such a power, like she did. And she had already then, an unbelievable stage energy and charisma. After Forever made some phenomenal dongs themselves, but slso performed covers from Europe to Queen - just with a lot more power. After Forever were an incredible band and luckily Floor has brought some of their songs back, in her project. And the songs from ReVamp were just as awesome.

The guy growling his name is Mark Jansen (no relationship to floor )and when after forever stopped performing. He started the group Epica. very good band, just to let you know.

At this point in time, Mark hadn't been in AF for almost 5yrs. In 2002 he left AF and immediately started (Sahare Dust) Epica. The growling guy here is Sander Gommans, Floor's boyfriend back then. He suffered from severe burn-out later, which ultimately played a huge role in the break-up of After Forever.

Fun fact: The band's band name is inspired from a band called BLACK SABBATH. Black Sabbath had a song with the same title "After Forever". If you're not familiar with BLACK SABBATH, they're the founders of heavy metal since 1969.

After Forever toured w/ Nightwish so Nightwish already knew Floor, including Tarja, which both of them are very good friends to this day. (There is NO competition between Floor and Tarja, that's only among some fans). For instance, if you wanna see Tarja invite Floor to sing a song with her search for Tarja Turunen "Over the Hills and Far Away" live featuring Floor Jansen. Also, there is an Instagram chat uploaded on youtube of Tarja and Floor during Christmas of 2020 during the pandemic. You'll see they both respect each other!!! And when Tarja had Floor sing w/ her Floor had just officially joined Nightwish.

This performance was from 2007 whre they played at ProgPower USA, she was 26 years old here. My first introduction to After Forever was Monolith of Doubt (live at Kopspijkers 2002), I was immediately blown away by her stage presence, passion, power and vocals she brought to the table. There she was only 21 years old, but already extremely talented. Like nothing I had seen before.

in fact floor in after forever was better because she sang harder songs, the problem is the recording is not as good as now, so u have to listen to studio versions and it will blow your mind. Leaden Legacy by after forever is what made floor the best for me way before she joined nightwish
