AFTER LIKE and the Importance of Practical Effects

I can't imagine how goddamn costly it was to practically film that After Like MV. Especially the fireworks towards the end of the music video. But yeah, practical effects have that 'realism' that makes you realize how much effort they put into making a MV stand out even more. Like you really know that it's actually happening. But, I also like a MV that mixes both practical effects and CGI successfully.

Great video. It’s amazing how much goes into a 3 minute song. The choreo and dance practice, stage design, song writing and recording, video shooting and editing. And all the preplanning to execute it. Kpop is its own art form

I agree! CGI in music videos sometimes just makes everything look really weird, especially if people are dancing while there’s CGI stuff going on. My brain just decides that’s too much conflicting info all at once and gives up. IVE’s video for After Like was really cool! Also good to see you again! I hope you’re doing well

Damn when you said I love DC MVs but Maison was a miss I really felt that lol It's cool to see somebody actually talking abt this topic; when I first watched After Like the whole time I kept being like Nah wait that looks almost like it's practical it couldn't be right? And then it's just like yeah the whole thing's super practical heavy and it's frickin amazing It almost kinda connects in thematically with the fact that they sampled such a classic for the chorus

I think After Like was meant to be a gay anthem. Cause it featured a lot of elements popular to the gays. The whole sample they used - I Will Survive, is a gay anthem. The whole music video looked a tribute to Madonna's videography - another gay icon. Accoring to each individual set -WonYoung (Red) - La Isla Bonita -Yujin (Pink) - Material Girl -Leeseo (Yellow) - Bedtime Stories -Gaeul (deep blue) - The circle stage resemble Open your Heart Im not 100% sure about Liz and Rei's sets but i think they were tributes to Express Yourself (light house) and Beautiful Stranger respectively. To make it even more concrete, the whole rainbow thing scattered around the mv
