I’m not dissing on this, but why is Tomlinson NOT doing a talk show? She’s got so much more to offer than a game show like format. I hope this show can progress into something more.

I agree. I mean, can they let her do a monolog every night or something? What a waste of her talent. I might watch one or two more, to see if/how it evolves. But really, this show is old news; feels like cancellation in a few months -- or her getting bored and leaving -- is already all but guaranteed.
@wtfesme235

Answer: it’s a first step. Get her used to talking to different famous folk, what the rhythm of a show needs to be and how to improvise on the fly when a bit doesn’t work or a guest cancels. It’s training wheels. She won’t be here for long. She’ll be on to bigger things. I, for one, am here for it! She’s hilarious with anything she does.

I'm here to support Tomlinson, who is geninely one of the funniest stand-up comedians I've ever seen. If we can't get Tomlinson her own talk show (which she is 100% worthy of rocking), is there a chance we could compromise and let her have an opening monologue before the games start so that she can show off her comedic chops?

@@c.lee.g.1723 This is the Mean Girls musical adaptation all over again. This a reboot of the show “@midnight” that was announced a year ago, with Taylor taking over as host, this is not a Taylor Tomlinson late night show, it was never meant to be but the recent marketing never showed what the show is. You’ll often see him talk about random everyday things with guests or engage in silly improvised bits with them. Amazing examples of this if you’re interested are his interviews with Robin Williams. I’m sure some of the humor hasn’t aged the best but you really see how quick witted he is and can basically go toe to toe with Robin in terms of his improv skills. It’s basically both of them going full adhd brain and it’s pretty epic lol. I would recommend starting there if you want a good example of what made his show unique compared to other late night talk shows.

I don't know if I'm in the minority but I was at first disappointed when I thought she was going to be sitting behind a desk wearing a suit and slowly getting more and more political to gain attention. That's a waste of her comedic talent and besides, talk shows are kind of a thing of the past. Trying to start a new one now is a death sentence. Look at Lilly Singh. The current generation of viewers don't care for it and the only people still watching talk shows are the ones who have been watching them for a while so they're established shows. That being said, this format is a bit of an odd choice, plus it's kind of copied from a show called "Game Changer" by the Collegehumor (or whatever they're calling themselves now). It still gave me a few laughs so I'm down to give it a try.

Taylor doesn’t disappoint 💪🏼 I wish she had more freedom in format. Why doesn’t she have a monolog? Why don’t we get introduced to the other comedians before jumping into the show? It’s fine to have the game, but having the game as the ONLY aspect of the show leaves me wishing for other segments. Most importantly we need an opportunity to care who every one is, and to get the late night monologue we all want from her. This format is giving afternoon, not after midnight.

I really didn't love how sanitised the comedy felt for the first few minutes. It reminded me of how lucky I feel to live in Australia, where comedians can safely say "fuck" on TV without being bleeped. But damn, everybody got in an absolute stride a few minutes in and I was cracking up properly. Very excited for Paul F. Tompkins, he's one of my absolute favourites.
