Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

Comedy has always expressed the current things happening in the world in a unique way. It's interesting how mental health is becoming a topic, and maybe it's good...helping destigmatize it or help people realize they're not alone. I had anxiety for a long time, books like "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels and "The Power of Now' by Tolle really helped a lot.

Watching comedians who struggle with mental illness talk about mental illness is healing. Watching comedians who don't struggle with mental illness talk about mental illness is cringey at best. I felt for a long time like I couldn't seek help for my mental illnesses because I didn't have a "right" to feel so awful all the time and hate my life because nothing very traumatic has ever happened to me. "You're privileged to have a mental illness" is a damaging take to public mental health.

The USA's healthcare system is so wild. As a Brit, with universal healthcare I'd never considered mental health issues a wealth/class indicator, but actually getting diagnosis and treatment legit is over there. It's kinda a weird reversal because a few decades ago the adage was poor people are crazy; rich people are _eccentric_. But I guess these days it's poor people are either so impacted they're "crazy" and avoided; while rich(er) people are diagnosed with specific conditions.
@helenl3193
@helenl3193 Жыл бұрын
To be clear, when I say poor people are crazy I mean those who cannot pass in school/work/society as 'normal' (which is a nonsensical concept for a person no healthier than 'perfect') and/or whose struggle to cope undiagnosed/unsupported leads them into maladaptive coping mechanisms, such as numbing the pain/taking the edge off through addictions, etc, which then makes them stereotypically crazy/disfunctional outliers in their communities. Just wanted to be clear I don't think it's ever been true that there are fewer people who suffer mental health issues in a particular financial/class demographic, (although I'm fairly sure the types of issues may vary due to environmental factors) but western capitalist societies have always had different rules about which of those groups get/deserve compassion and treatment/care for their ailments vs who gets left to fall through the cracks/dumped in a cruel institution, etc.

As a poor American on disability, I have limited access to healthcare which, I suppose, is better than none. But when it comes to mental health services, seeing the wrong therapist can be pretty useless. And I'm dealing with more than just garden variety depression and anxiety (e.g. bipolar, borderline pd, CPTSD).
@lnt305
@lnt305 Жыл бұрын
Weirdly, depression is not equally distributed. Like, if you don’t control for confounders, black people are more likely to be depressed and if you do, less likely.
@turtlesauce6860

@@meghanmonroe Yes! Bad therapy is worse than no therapy at all! I'm also a poor American on disability, and medicare and medicaid and LIS because I'm a cancer patient (my treatment costs $20K a month) with severe CPTSD and I can verify that the mental healthcare we have access to is bottom of the barrel! I've learned the hard way that The System is indeed useless when it comes to treating trauma. They only want to pay for generic talk therapy, which doesn't help a lot of trauma because it's stored in the body, the limbic system, the non-cognitive parts of the brain, and talk therapy can actually re-traumatize you if they don't know how to protect you. If you haven't already, please check out Dr. Gabor Mate - he really explains it well and is a good place to start. The algorithms will lead you to a larger field of doctors who are finding a much better approach to treating trauma. Somatic work - get out of the head and into the body and work it out through movement and breathing or tapping (EFT). There are a lot of amazing modalities like different forms of yoga, embodiment, breathwork, vagus nerve work, music (mindful hand drumming is saving me right now). I don't mean to be preachy - the only way I've been able to hang on is to learn about this stuff on my own because the System was only making it worse. Talk therapy never worked for me and I thought it was my fault. It's a very collaborative group of experts -they put out a lot of free talks, webinars, YT videos, podcasts, free apps etc. It's helped me find different things that help me calm my own nerves that the system doesn't cover, and I really didn't have to pay much for the education. I really hope you're still hanging in there 9 months later!

@@Roxie3378 If you've just been told you have stage 4 cancer, feeling sad and hopeless is an appropriate response to your situation. If you live in a war zone and you know a bomb could be dropped on your house any day, intense fear is an appropriate response to your situation. If you don't have enough money to make the next rent payment, worrying about your future is an appropriate response to your situation. But people with depression or anxiety or panic attacks have these feelings without the external reasons for such feelings. It's not the feeling that makes it a mental health disorder, it's the fact that your life is good enough that the feeling isn't warranted by your circumstances.

Me, below the poverty level, renting a room from a friend post-divorce, diagnosed with depression. “Oh yeah this is the life.” Are antidepressants copium? (Kidding, I can’t take antidepressants or my bipolar ass will become manic.)

Never will forget my dad after i told him i was afraid of my next depression and that i suspect the meds im taking were responsible for making it worse: could you be bipolar? Yes I could! And habe been describing it perfectly to my psychiatrist many years. I was furious but also happy to finally now what was the first thing wrong with me and brought on a lot of different brain thingies because undiagnosed despite doctor an therapies (plural!)

When you are in depression, you might be in depressive phase of bipolar disorder. Giving antidepressants (which is good in isolated depressive) will cause a manic switch if you were actually in BPD. Hence, you were given mood stabilizer.

Michael Che-- sweet jaysus. Depression isn't being sad...it is living in absolute freaking darkness where you can't feel anything other than glimpses of despair. Not a white privilege thing--what an ignorant thing to say.
