That's very true! In addition, unfortunately Ruyi had no strong family to back her up, so the emperor thought he could get away with treating her however he wanted. Plus her love for him made him take advantage, assuming she would never give up on him. Luckily he was wrong and she made it clear she was fed up with his nonsense!

Exactly like in the historical records. Ling even 8 month pregnant would break taboo to entertain him with fattening food. All the ministers opposed Ling being given honors much less made an Empress, so the Emperor never bothered. While Empress Nara was cherished by the entire court and people would risk advocating for her even decades after her death.

Because she sees Ruyi through her mother's eyes. Empress Xiaoxian thought of Ruyi as a threat, so Jingse will also think Ruyi was a threat to her mother, like Ling here is for Ruyi. Jingse also believes Ruyi is responsible for her bad match with the Prince of Khorchin, which made her mother heartbroken and contributed to her death. She truly believes Ruyi did harm her and Empress Xiaoxian. At least she saw Ling was a pile of shit and acted on it.

@@HSK.Lerner She doesn't involve herself directly. However, she does help Ling get the Emperor's favor back (partly because she believes Ling saved her son Qingyou from drowning, also to spite Ruyi), and she does help Ling preserve Jin Zhong here for a brief time. Still, I don't think Jingse respects Ling either. She doesn't want Ling as Empress more than she wants Ruyi. To her, none of them are worthy of being the Central Palace, none are worthy of being in the place that belonged to her mother. I remember she also criticized Ruyi in front of her father when all the concubines gathered against the Emperor favoring Xiangjian and mistreating Chun and the Third Prince. She openly criticized Ruyi's ways of handling the harem and compared her to her mother, which prompted Qianlong to start comparing her with Empress Xiaoxian whenever they had an argument.

Apparently, her husband did a lot of political mistakes and it enraged Emperor Qianlong. The Emperor says in one episode when she's back in the palace that he only didn't execute her husband because he didn't want to leave her a widow at such a young age. Jingse then told her father that her husband became estranged from her because she had a hard labour with their only son, and it made her unable to have more children, so he took concubines and started neglecting her, his official wife. Jingse then begged to live in the palace with her son instead of going back to her husband, and Qianlong of course approved it, because he was mad that his son-in-law would mistreat his daughter and grandson as well, besides the political thing. Pretty hyprocrite of him actually, since he did much worse with Ruyi. @@HSK.Lerner
