Awe, Yonghuang sneaking out to visit Ruyi soon as he could was so cute and filial of him. And later on Ruyi picking out better brushes for his studies/caligraphy work. They truly were like mother and son regardless of blood relations. I just wish he'd been able to grow into full adulthood. Sad what happened to him.

Someone should make a list of all the wild teas, dishes, and other meals they feature in this show. My favorite one from this episode is “purple-ginseng pigeon soup”. 😅 I do wonder if they sound so fantastical bc of the translation from Mandarin to English? Either way we totally need a list.

Spoilers!!!: . . . . I wonder how Hailan felt towards the end of the show; knowing that she couldn’t do much to avoid the fate of both Ruyi and her baby boy. I wonder if she was able to find some peace on her own after all the events of the show; I really hope she did. She was such a loyal devoted friend.

She's one of the Concubines who lived till old age. She passed away when she was 78 years old. (at least in actual historical events) She probably did. She has to take care of the 12th Prince for Ruyi.

Elevated infant mortality rates. The more women you impregnate the higher the chances for at least one of your sons to reach adulthood and inherit your throne. In all of China’s history only one emperor was monogamous. The real Qing dynasty’s harems were so peaceful it was almost dull, so this is highly romanticised and very likely not what happened in real history.
