It's really cool how the Austrian office of AKG and the now Samsung owned AKG parting ways made each other better. Austrian Audio's products are orders of magnitude better than the mediocre junk that got the Austria office shut down in the first place (the office was shut because none of the awful headphones AKG developed at the time were selling) and the new products Samsung AKG released are some incredibly heavy hitters in every market they've released to, AKG K361, K371, N700NCM2 and N400 are all/ were all revolutions in the audio world, K361 and K371 are the best sounding closed backs you can get under Audeze Maxwell prices, N700NCM2 are the best ANC headphones i've ever gotten to try (AKG PLEASE MAKE A V3, THEY WOULD DESTROY SONY) N400 were the best sounding TWS earbuds you could get for a long time and their DNA went straight into making Samsung Galaxy buds as good as they are.

Samsung only bought AKG brand and they used to put it on everything. I have it on my Samsung A52s, Tab S6 lite and buds2. But it seems like they kinda stopped that recently. I believe that all those headphones you listed were deisgned by AKG and only sold by Samsung. Samsung designs their own stuff such as galaxy buds and that's why you won't see v3.
@sidesaladaudio9 ай бұрын
@smiechu60 Samsung bought Harman International, which included all the companies that Harman owned, like AKG has been owned by Harman since the mid 90s. Harman still operates as an independent subsidiary of Samsung, and they still develop and research a lot, which is why AKG and JBL still continue to improve and lead the markets that they are in. The Vienna AKG did close down, and most of the original AKG engineers left since headquarters moved to the USA, and much of production moved to China. I just don't quite like the way that Wade paints it as if Samsung just bought AKG to kill it and take the name. The decision to close AKG in Vienna was from Harman, before Samsung bought Harman.

How have they been holding up, build wise ? I got them a couple of weeks back and they do feel sturdy, but I would be very interested in knowing how they hold up after years of use.

Ive had my x65 for about a year now, its amazing I love them. Theyre built like tanks and sounds so good w/ decent isolation. I just use them for travel and every day use as beaters. they dont bother people cause the isolation is just good enough to be open sounding but closed off enough to not leak too much. Theyre the only open back headphone thats still stylish that you can take outside and listen but also durable enough to take a beating cause I treat them like trash and theyve held up super well.

Are they gaming cheat codes?
@ubacow71098 ай бұрын
No the imaging and staging arent wide enough for that. The only headphone that truly does that to a high level is the HD800S. Everything else is so far away from it staging capabilities. The x65 is open enough to remind you that its still an open back but its not the widest sounding thing that ive heard. That being said i do use them to game casually, but its not the best tool for the job. @@AndrewLamas19

Seeing this and the more recent coming of their headsets - the PG16 and PB17 - they're knocking it out of the park for what they're offering. I haven't heard anyone compare them to the Hi-X60 since that's their closed-back version (and even then the price would make it look unfair) but from the reviews I heard about the headsets, they're also well balanced with the top end sticking out a bit more like these lads. Granted I'm sure the soundstage and clarity is even better with the Hi-X's, but I've heard that both of the headsets have good clarity and soundstage with some people staying there was no difference in sound quality, which is interesting since one's marketed for professional business use and the other's for gaming. I dunno what's true, but Austrian Audio definitely locked in a headphone design that works regardless of the application. I'll grab their PB17 since I love the more matte grey and black design. Subtly is king for me.

My ears and head always get hot with over ear headphones. Is there a magical material or combination that gives great sound and keeps ears cool?
@bananawarlock39818 ай бұрын
Some 3rd party brands make "cooling gel" earpads. Not sure how effective they are, though.
@ivana61418 ай бұрын
@bananawarlock3981 they only work if you put ice packs on them first. If you cool them first they stay cool for a while. The problem is it works the other way. When they heat up from your body heat or from a hot room they cook your head like a roast chicken.
@1sm0Laitela8 ай бұрын
Cloth I'd say. Not that velvety style but more mesh-y. I'd also say that the headphones itself have a big effect on the sweatyness, like how heavy they are and how tightly they squeeze your head. I have Philips SHP9500 and those are just perfect. Open back, breathing cloth pads and headband, lightweight and very light head squeeze. I can wear them all day no sweat, which I can't do with say Sony's anc headphones for example.
@ivana61418 ай бұрын
@1sm0Laitela Makes sense. I've found those sport weave style fabric ones allow airflow and let the heat escape. Loose a little bass, but comfort is more important.
@crazyidiot53098 ай бұрын
Probably get roasted for this one, but Airpods Max. They have incredible comfort and cloth breathable cups. They sound great too, just sayin. But there's undoubtedly better.

in the settings, the plastic ones crack (I'm advertising again), otherwise there's nothing to complain about, but this is quite a mess! There are many of us who are solving this problem. It happens after 1.5 years of prolonged use for me. They responded by adding a 5-year warranty and will "fix" it on new models.
@minidee21949 ай бұрын
The only objectively good one in their lineup. I think AA knows what they're doing, purposefully screwing up all those cheap options they have.
@h4tch3tt745 ай бұрын
The Austrian Audio Microphones are imo a bit overpriced but far superior in quality compared to their headphones. In the audiophile space the Austrian Audio headphones (with the exception of "The Composer") have been very middling compared to what else is out there. Even "The Composer which has some positive reimviews is not the best value at the price. Right now the best $2000 headphone at time of writing appears to either be the Tungsten by Ryan at Modhouse Audio or the Dan Clark Audio (DCA) E3. The DCA E3s are more widely available with reputable warranties from places like Crutchfield in the US.
