Me listening to the HD600s through KZbin's compression on my ten dollar earbuds: "Yes, I see."
@FriedEgg1013 жыл бұрын
To be fair, you're not meant to get an accurate representation of what each headphone actually sounds like, but rather hear some difference between them using the headphones/speakers you have. I'm listening on speakers and can hear that the brown Koss are the most bass-light, followed by the HD600, then the Meze, then the LCD2. Using this I can tell that I'd probably prefer the LCD2 over the HD600, even though I've heard neither irl.

I had two pairs of those Grado non-hemps. I thought they were dull with no treble. I thought EVERY headphone was dull with no trouble. Eventually I had a hearing test and the doc said I was dang close to deaf. I guess that explains why all the audio work I've done professionally gets sent back at least once with the note "This is WAY too hot and hissy". Seriously. I was making stuff sound good to ME. But I can't hear treble so I cranked the ultrasonics. I produced audio professionally? Oops. I STILL do. Don't tell.

But the Mezes are honestly so good at blocking out external noise (even without electronic noise cancellation) while still being fairly wide and full sounding. It’s so easy to start an album, close your eyes, and just totally forget about the world around you. And in a claustrophobic metal tube in the sky that’s full of people, that’s exactly what I need.

Honestly, I love this channel because not only do you cover weak sauce nuggets, but you also dive deep into audiophile level equipment. Even ordered a dac online today for my Cloud II's just because I'm having issues with the dongle, which is fine since I rarely use the 7.1 surround to begin with, and I don't even use the Cloud II mic in the first place, I use my Yeti Nano for that.

Great video and great fun! That Hemp looks really amazing! One thing I'd like to point out is that generally all old Grados have a reputation of coarse build quality on a lot headphone forums, while people are extremely polarised in terms of the sounds. I have a grado GH3 and I love how quick and transparent the sound is. In terms of build quality I think brands like Audeze or Focal can easily destroy it.

Watching this video again and watching the Mezes makes me think about how so many companies will usually sell the best, personally inspected stuff out to reviewers, sometimes even sending products that are better than what the consumer would recieve, all to put their absolute best foot forward. It's obvious here that these are just the same headphones that anyone else would get from the company, which really shows just how confident they are in their products.

I think for headphones that are that old, they sound alright. They've got the mids, that's where the heart of music lives anyway. Smooth mids. You'd be amazed how many headphones today can't get mids right. Listened to V-Moda LP2 recently, and i was ANGRY at their lack of musicality. I'd rather listen to shitbrown KOSS from 60 years ago, or to 30 year old Walkman headphones. Also magnets don't stay magnets forever, they lose that magnetism gradually. Whatever organic material the membrane is, it might have not fared the best either. There's a chance that they sounded slightly better when they were made.
