EVT is a designation for one of the states of device development. Typically the levels are Proto > EVT > DVT > PVT. So Pre-EVT is _really_ early in development.

That iPod Touch has unfortunatly been whiped. As a result it thinks it's just a regular iPod touch and all it's special prototype hardware isn't functioning :(

Regarding Windows format: iPods run software that originally only supported FAT32 (Windows) format, because they bought all the software from a third party and then hacked it up to use HFS (and then added FAT32 back again for Haitch Pee). Wouldn't be surprised if all the development work (even later on) was done on FAT32 drives because of this.
