Fun Fact: Supposedly, when he was done with the episode, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm handed Adam West a $25,000 check and the original Batman costume which Dini bought for an "undisclosed sum" at an auction.

A favorite bit of trivia of mine, that I don't know is true or not, but would be wonderful if it was: there's an episode of Justice League where the whole point of the episode is to get Kevin Conroy to sing. Because some of the shows creators heard him singing at one point and decided to try and give him a reason to on-screen. So they turned Wonder Woman into a pig so Batman could sing and free her from a Greek goddess' spell. And I gotta say... Kevin's rendition of Am I Blue is still my favorite. ^^

Kevin Conroy truly was the iconic Batman and as a fan of the show as a child it remains one of my favorite fandoms. But even Kevin once stated that the character never could have evolved if it wasn't for his fellow costars and the talent they brought. Mark Hamill as The Joker, John Glover as The Riddler, Aaron Kincaid as Killer Croc, Diana Pershing as Poison Ivy, Richard Moll as Two Face, and of course the lovely Arleen Sorkin and Adrienne Barbeau as Harley Quinn and Catwoman. Each one allowed Batman to evolve and Kevin Conroy with him. His loss is said, but I feel we as fans can honor him by continuing to follow the Legacy of Batman now that Diedrich Bader will be picking up the cowl.

When Trent says, "It wasn't all for nothing!", I thought of actor Clayton Moore - best known as "The Lone Ranger", which had a long run on radio, TV and comics. Moore had no issue being typecast as The Lone Ranger and frequently appeared in costume with his mask! He knew how important it was to be a positive role model for children who needed it. He reveled in being a hero to good people everywhere and lived a life as a positive example I wish others would learn to follow.

When I was a kid my Dad managed to save his vhs of The Lone Ranger and my earliest memories were watching The Lone Ranger as a toddler all the way up to my tweens, I absolutely adored the character and still do. I hope one day we bring back heroes like that kids could look up to. To me my top three favorite classic heroes I grew up with will always be Lone Ranger, Batman, and Luke Skywalker.

I remember it wasn't long after I had bought a copy of Lego Batman 3 that I learned we had lost Adam West. So to me that was his final. In that game they had (along with some DLC) was also celebrating Batman's 75th anniversary. So one of the bonus levels they included in the game proper not DLC was a huge tribute to Adam West, the actor itself was a character with a collectible side quest, you could them play as him & play the entire cast of the 60s era & even as a extra character you could even play as the Gray Ghost. Having grown up with the Tim Burton movies & Adam West's movie, I liked both equally as a Batman fan. I had some genuine sympathy from my parents when I was heartbroken to know that Kevin Conroy had past because to me he was just as much my Batman as Adam West was to them. & knowing that Jason David Frank ANOTHER staple of my childhood in the same year...that was double gut punch.

If we can take comfort in this, then at least Kevin's final years were happy ones as he came out in 2016 and could be open about his identity. And when news of his death spread, many obituaries revealed that he was married to his husband. How long he was married is undisclosed but at least Kevin was happy and alone no longer.

I find it fascinating, heart-breaking, and ultimately sweet that both Kevin Conroy and Adam West both found solace, and a comfort playing Batman and that the character helped them out of their circumstances. I think that's exactly how Bruce would prefer it too; helping people who have either suffered because of who they are or because the world was cruel to them. I'm glad West didn't hold it against the character and embraced it because that could have easily spiraled into the same bitterness and cynicism that William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and Harrison Ford all had for their respective roles and typecasting. And Kevin comparing Batman to classical characters tells you so much about both him, and his respect and genuine reverence towards Batman as a character, and goes a long way towards exemplifying why he's arguably the best Batman there's ever been. Man, I miss Adam and Kevin. The world is a less delightful and bright one with their absences, but I'm hoping there can be more actors and voice actors that can do just as well for their performances as well.
@magnusprime962
@magnusprime962 Жыл бұрын
Leonard Nimoy probably isn’t the greatest example though because like West, he reconciled with the love people had for his character. I saw him at his last convention appearance and he talked about how honored he was when people told him that he was their inspiration for becoming scientists. Nimoy did write “I Am Not Spock”, but he later wrote “I Am Spock” as a response to both its predecessor and the belief that he hated the role. A better example might be Alec Guinness, who hated that the general public only saw him as Obi-wan.

8:22 This quick discussion reminds me of an aspect of myself and the media I enjoy that some people I've talked about it with don't quite "get". They can understand, but not "get", if you follow me. I find it easier to suspend my disbelief and allow myself to become immersed in animated works than live action (while still accepting it's not actually real). This is the opposite to a lot of people, because for them seeing what they can accept as living people allows them to view themselves in the setting. For me, live action feels like watching actors, I can tell they're playing their roles and it feels less genuine. Animation, meanwhile, feels more like looking into a different reality, so the whole actors aspect doesn't quite come into how I'm interpreting. Of course, this doesn't extend to documentaries, I understand and accept that they are being educational about real things, and how people act and react in them feels more genuine than when they're intentionally acting. Just felt important to share, for some reason.
