One thing about the scene with Celestia and Twilight in lesson zero that really stuck out for me was that Celestia let Twilight do most of the talking. She didn't get angry and she didn't right away start scolding Twilight. She just had Twilight explain her actions and corrected her whenever she went wrong. In Canterlot Wedding I'm disappointed that she didn't go after Twilight later to try and help solve the problem and make her learn a lesson. I can understand her being upset at Twilight but to just say something hurtful and leave it at that feels beneath her. Not to mention her doing her brother's wedding without her is kinda cold hearted, I would think she would make at least some effort to help sort things out between Twilight, Cadance and Shining or at the very least check what happened to her student. So often during discipline scenes they either just give a lecture or start ordering punishments without asking the context or even showing interest to what the situation was. Even Harry Potter has that, one of my least favorite moments is in book 2 when the head of Griffondor (can't remember her English name) just punishes them without asking questions. She didn't seem to think about that their actions were on top of forbidden were also highly inconvenient so that meant they had to have a good reason to do it. Discipline is something that greatly moves me and I almost never like it when the teacher/parent seems more interested in making others miserable than trying to make them learn something or figuring what exactly happened. In Harry Potter I didn't recall her saying what they should have done instead of taking the car or even an investigation being launched as to why the gate was closed. In Philosopher stone I also didn't like it when she punished them for being in the castle late without asking them why they were there to begin with. It seems some parents think children can't think but they can, children and especially teenagers know the rules so if they break them they must have had a good reason for that. I'm not saying having a reason means you shouldn't be punished but you have to consider the context in order for them to really learn something. Punishing them for breaking the rules alone isn't teaching as it's just enforcing a rule they already knew. I would like to see more of Celestia doing that.

XDDDDDDDDDDD! but seriously guys; I mean I love Luna simply for her relatable qualitys but I do also love celestial for her humbled courage. And Cadence? She strikes the balance of "sister" "first timemother" and "leader" while still showing that alicorns need a break from their royal duties just as anyone would need a break from work after say two years without vacation time. Why? Cuz it's taxing on their health. Then there's twilight who serves as a transition stage from student life to adult life. So I don't really get upset when she's struggling in season 5 with being a princess vs being a person. So yeah. Your aloud to make compliments to characters who aren't you're favorite. Just as much is you're allowed to make playful jabs at them

I'm not sure how you can say that. Cadance set a day aside just to have fun with Twilight, and Celestia and Luna are shown to enjoy just getting together with Twilight for casual visits when they can. The fact that they have so many responsibilities though means they have to be selective when it comes to their socializing time (and ponies they are close to like Twilight take priority), but regardless they have plenty of fun. Even Luna doesn't socialize with the "kingdom" at large all that often (her dream walking is a job, not simple socializing). There's also the theory that Luna has taken on a "big sister" role for the kingdom while Celestia is the "mother" for the kingdom. Not to mention how all the princesses showed up for Cranky's wedding, so I don't see how you can say only Luna socializes.

Ryodraco exactly. Tia is always busy with running a kingdom that she doesn't always stop and smell the roses. And as for Cadence she's always in her kingdom doing nothing. Now she's a mother. So that's a start of character development.

Lovin' this video! Celestia is my favorite princess and one of my favorite characters. Her strength, her regality, and her ultimate vulnerability, make me feel awe-struck and sympathetic for her at the same time. I have been a little worried about her presentation so far in season six. She just seems... off. She doesn't show joy at the birth of Flurryheart, just stress because Flurryheart is an alicorn. She's a lot less patient with Twilight as well. This could be because she sees Twilight as an equal now instead of a student and feels she can be a little more frank with her. But her reaction when Cranky asks her why her mane flows like it does, that irritated sigh, makes me think there is more to it than that. I think Celestia is tired. She has ruled a kingdom without support for a thousand years. She has been the pony wearing the queenly mask and that mask is starting to crack. If this is left unchecked, if Celestia lets her feelings build instead of looking for help with them (and given the way she acts I don't think she will), we could be looking at another Nightmare Moon level event. I know there is some Nightmare Star stuff floating around in the trading card game. I would not be surprised at all if Celestia ended up being the Big Bad of the season finale, and we finally get that Celestia episode we've been craving.

@@crazy13alex I find it easy to empathise with Luna in that episode. I've had life experiences where I've made positive steps forward but emotionally tormented myself because of that one mistake I've made. Depression isn't managed with positive acts but with support from family and therapeutic support. In A Royal Problem, we see how their relationship was going. We got a little bit of it in The Crystal Empire where Luna's input was not even acknowledged by Celestia. I don't agree with creating a nightmare monster. My personal headcanon is that she made it when she was in the moon or shortly after turning back to Luna. That episode had many, many problems. However, I think it was interesting to see how much she had changed to not allow it to destroy Equestria, something Nightmare Moon would've wanted just to get back at Celestia.

Counter-counterpoint to #4: There is one other time when Celestia loses her cool: Discord's introduction. All through Season 1, Celestia was wise, serene, or mischievous. Then a chuckle echoes out of stained glass, and she's on the defensive. Celestia was both angry and afraid, emotions we'd never seen from her before. It said a lot about the magnitude of the threat Discord represented and his history with Celestia. Certainly not one of her finer moments, but one that spoke volumes. In any case, thank you for this. I certainly wasn't expecting a pony analysis video rooted in Jungian psychology.

I HATE how everyone demonizes her for that when, yeah, from HER perspective Twilight was decidedly in the wrong there. I like this video! I was surprised at the lack of jokes, but it's a nice change of pace every once in a while. The sound of your OC and the Pin Ball Machine falling was a bit too loud and penetrating for my tastes, so I had to turn down the volume for that, but I liked everything else, especially how you connected the fate of the mane 6 to Celestia (e.g. Pinkie not being able to party in war etc.). I would love to see more of Celestia, especially how she would have dealt with those brutish Yaks, the punky Dragons, the annoying Hippogriffs or even Starlight Glimmer in her equalist town. She certainly wouldn't have accepted them to take the kind of tone with her like they did with the mane 6, but I wonder if she would've been able to solve the friendship problems then. I think perhaps a good idea was an episode focusing on celestia, something like her daily life, not only making her more relatable, but also more fully developed. She is also distanced when usualy princesses are the protagonists of stories, hence Twilight gaining this title just for the gimmick of it. Or, to get a little more complex plot, something that happens that "demotes" her, she loses everything she have and now has to spend some time down from her "ivory tower", trying to act more "normal" but not in a comedic, demeaning way.

Think about it this way Quill. For a good year I was friends with a popular youtuber (No names) We talked everyday on skype and I respected him far more than any of my other friends. Little did I know that what I felt wasn't the respect between friends, but the respect of a fan. Me and him were never truly friends. He wanted an honest friend, and I was happy being friends with a youtuber. I joined into a skype group with him, meeting a few other people, only 1 of which I am still friends with. Up until the point where we parted ways, I never knew that he wasn't really my friend. I never saw him as a person, I saw him as a small star. I acted as if he was better than me, and in a way, I believe Twilight still has that for Celestia. Not quite on the level I did, with how much time Twilight spent with Celestia she would have gotten over most of that. But that feeling is still present in Twilight and she doesn't even know it.

Excellent video as always and I'm so glad that you had so many nice things to say about Princess Celestia! Sigh usually the analysts and everypony for that matter just beat on her....sniff Anyway I definitely agree that Princess Celestia was meant to be the warm yet strong motherly figure for not only the Mane 6 but the whole of Equestria. Despite what some people say I think she has always done a good job or at least she did the best she could. I have great admiration for Celestia since despite how hard the situation was she's always done what she had to do. Her strength is also very inspirational especially in the scene with Tierk when she looks him right in the eye knowing that he's about to do something horrible to her, Luna and Cadence and says "You will not prevail Teirk" I'd like to think she doesn't know how this is going to turn out but she was still strong regardless. At the same time she's also been as a mother to her subjects guiding them the right path but still giving them the freedom to choose. However it is a interesting point that she never gives Twilight a choice about becoming a princess she just makes her a princess, but I'd like to think that Twilight chose to go down the path Celestia laid for her she just didn't know where it was leading, but she still decided to go down it. At the same time Celestia has great trust in her subjects. In the first episode she trusts her very life to the mane 6 who she doesn't even know! So I think like to end with a lot of ponies have faith in Celestia because she has faith in them. This is why I admire her so much and I am proud to defend her. Stay Strong and Pony On BlueStar Out

Not only is today the summer solstice, there is a full moon as well. Good video, it is important to see the positive side of things, admittedly I don't really like Celestia - but, that is primarily due to the writers not doing anything useful with her flaws or the mistakes that she makes.

I've had a theory about why Celestia is constantly being defeated and I think it's so that she is shown to be fallible and not the Godlike figure that we were presented with in her first appearance. Also I don't think that it's just to show her as capable of being wrong but also to try and make Alicorns as a whole seem as less like deities, probably to suit Lauren's Faust's original vision and possibly to make Twilight ascension seem less of a dramatic shift. They wanted to show Alicorns as imperfect beings but because they only had three Alicorns and had to use them sparingly, what they intended didn't go exactly as planned.

I feel as though Celestia doesn't exactly have "prophetic dreams." I feel as though she can see what is happening in the present. The vision with Tirek was at night, so it could have been her seeing what was already happening. This explains how she knew to send Twilight the scrolls in return of harmony, and quell the fighting in lesson zero. it also explains why she didnt know Crysalis had been invading since the weirdest thing that happened was the "headache healing" spells.
