You know the funny thing is when ever people talk about the original intentions for the elements of harmony I feel Rainbow Dash would've been more suited to the element of inspiration then to loyalty because that's what she's always been even as a Filly in cutiemark chronicles she unintentionally became a massive influence and inspiration on the ponies that would eventually become her friends, with her first sonic rainboom she helped her five friends find themselves that little extra push that allowed them to find their talents as we've seen this was pivotal.

In Equestria would the Castrater be better known as the Gelder? Greek mythology gives a wide variety of portrayals of the Amazons. In some stories they're fearsome savages who subjugated or killed all the men. In others they're beautiful, noble warriors. And some stories put them somewhere in between.

Her tenacity is what made me fall in love with the show in the first place. I had been very resistant to the fandom for years until I started hearing some of the mlp remixes that were being made. Sunshine and Celery Stalks was the one that got me to final watch an episode for the source material, found in Winter Wrap-up. The show wasn't half bad so I watched it from the start and seeing Rainbow's justified ego, as well as how steadfast she was on her principle of loyalty is what finally sucked me in. Watching her grow over the seasons and become more comfortable with her feminine side has been both enjoyable and adorable. As a guy who has many diverse interests, many of which don't fit the "manly man" ideology of our current society, yet being too aggressive for many of my female acquaintances, I have struggled with fitting in and making friends. In fact, I'd say I only have about 5 good friends, only one of which I see regularly. Right from the start, I connected to Dash as someone sitting on the razors edge between multiple competing identities. I'd say I'm rather unapologetic, now and no longer tweaking who I am based on who I am around, with the exception of having to reign in my intellect so as not to insult anyone, unintentionally. Since the 2nd EQG, however, I have found myself enjoying Sunset Shimmer much more. She already has the perfect balance of athleticism, charm and intellect, she just needs more confidence in her ability to share her experience and connect to others without the fear of rejection. With that said, thank you for including her in the ending. I really hope she makes a trip through the mirror to visit Equestria in season 7, partially so we can finally confirm that she is, in fact, an alicorn.

Nice analysis of Rainbow Dash. It has me thinking of this one episode I had in mind for her in Season 7. It'd be kind of like the Kobayashi Maru Test from Star Trek. Essentially, Rainbow Dash would be leading a team of Wonder Bolts on an important and dangerous assignment that's actually a test that impossible to pass because it's designed to always have a means to counter anything attempted and see how long the testee is willing to go until they finally admit defeat.
@skurvay34297 жыл бұрын
Twilight Sparkle may be the Main Protagonist in this series and the Leader of the Mane 6 & all, but it seems to me that Rainbow Dash is actually the Most Important character in this series & member of the Mane 6, MLP:FiM just wouldn't be what it has become with RD.

Man...so much is explained not only about Rainbow's character but helps me personally with people. A well done video Silver
@faves6337 жыл бұрын
I think an interesting take is to take down this notion that the masculine approach is the "wrong" approach to emotion. Rainbow is often blunt, straight forward and and tries to hide her emotions. Yes that can be bad, but is it really "better" to constantly express emotions, even when they aren't helpful in a situation or when you're really just dwelling on something and making it worse in your own head? Masculine and feminine approaches to emotion both have weaknesses and I think our culture's recent protectiveness of the feminine from criticism, is unhealthy. Yes, we were mistaken in discarding it so often in the past, but that doesn't mean we should act like female psychies are perfect now, or males are just defective females. Rainbow has different strengths than her friends. She's harder to intimidate, or at least, fear is something she uses to motivate herself instead of as a warning to back off. She tries to project an aura of toughness and despite all the eye rolls from her friends, it HAS paid off as her pride is not just empty boasting. Rainbow has an attitude that you really would need to be a competitor. Fluttershy, for instance, COULD get strong or fast, but because she doesn't actively seek physical challenges and just eat the pain that comes with them, it would take much longer and probably not pay off as well. Rainbow's personality has flaws, but they have flaws for HER personality, not for say, Twilight's. She a flawed Rainbow Dash, not a defective Twilight. She doesn't want to become a heavily expressive female, she pushes to the other side of the personality spectrum.

I don't know, I'd really rather Lightning Dust not return. Not because she's a bad character; she happens to be my favorite pony, but because of her place in the story. The whole point was that she was a character whose dreams were trampled underfoot by the careless heroes of the main cast. As someone who has struggled with suicidal urges before, I often think back to Lightning's situation, and I feel I can relate to her assumed after-episode state of misery. She was the equivalent of a GT elementary school student who just couldn't stand having to go at a snail's pace for the dullards around her, which built up a bitterness and resentment at students for being stupid and the teachers for catering to idiocy. That in particular is a situation that defined my early life, so I can relate. Now that our dreams have both been crushed by the careless, I like to think she is in a similar state to me, and the show could not depict a scenario like that. I think it's best if I can keep finding comfort in this character; she might have saved my life.

MLP-Silver-Quill Have you considered when your next episode analysis will be? I kinda miss hearing your take on them.
@adolfodef7 жыл бұрын
Did you know a hoof is an alternative form of the third falange? (middle finger) When a pony points to the sky with just one of her front hooves (without extending her whole leg upwards); then she is "flipping the bird" [it may depend of the context, just look at her eyes]. Example: Fluttershy on a taxi [S2E19]
@NikErrant7 жыл бұрын
It Doesn't have to be flipping bird. it could biting her hoof at him (also known as the Italian F-You) or putting out her front leg and hitting the inner elbow with her left hoof (a ride gesture in france) or perhaps she used her feathers which have been shown to be able to be used as fingers in some cases
@adolfodef7 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Flowright Wings are over-extended "hands" without an attached arm (skeleton_wise). If a pegasus wants to "flip" one of "their birds"; given the level of dexterity they have with them doing other manual things [lots of examples from both Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash]; they will be able to pull it without much problem. A unicorn could cast some light and move it around their horn in an oscilation pattern (the more skilled, the better the representation of the "idea"), as even a "dumb unicorn colt" can cast the "Lumos" spell [S1E06]. -> Since the lighting happens close to the eyes, the facial expression should comunicate "more" than the actual magic.

I'm defiantly not an Amazon character and more of whatever kind of character Flutershy or Twilight is. However, I am motivated to prove that girls are just as capable as boys. While there's no way I myself can prove tat girls are just as athletic as boys because of my own limitations, that doesn't mean that I'm weak. I've had to endure a lot frustration and pain growing up because I was born with conditions that made everyday tasks that most normal people are able to preform without a sweat. However, too many times I've seen perfectly capable people give up on something when they felt like it became too difficult. However, in those situations where I was somehow involved, I didn't give up like they did. I strived to do better and work even harder. For example, in middle when I signed up as a backstage hand for a school play, a lot kids had a hard trying to open a band new paint of can. When someone left to go find help, I decided to step in and managed to finally twist that stubborn lid open. Before you go thinking that someone had already loosened it before me, I actually noticed that the last person was twisting it the wrong way, making it tighter. I'll admit that I'm not the strongest person out there, but I managed to succeed where others failed simply because I was determined to finish something and stuck to it no matter how hard it was. I realize that opening a simple paint can doesn't exactly sound like a great accomplishment, but when you think about the hidden meaning behind it, there's quite a lot to say that actually aligns with what the Amazon Archetype represents: the determination and defiance to go beyond one's own imagine to civilization can prove oneself to be as capable or even more so that what others originally thought. In other words, don't let yourself be defined by what you are to others and show what you are truly capable of on your own terms. Opening that stubborn paint can was my way of proving just how strong I can be without stepping outside who I am and even a way to gain respect. Sounds silly? Most defiantly. Was this pointless? Not a chance. Even the littlest of things can show that there's a little bit of an Amazon in all of us, no mater how insignificant it may seem.
@SpitfiretheCat166 жыл бұрын
Honestly? It's pretty clear to me that the Archetypes are just as fluid and intermingling as the Myers-Briggs Personalities- they're meant to describe flat trends, stereotypes if you will, that some fill better than others and some not at all. That's why when you take the tests for how you fit into the latter set, it gives you your four letters based on *percentages.* Even the type given to you, no matter how accurate the test is, doesn't describe you as a whole. It's really just meant to compare you to others and describe patterns, not give you a full map of your very soul. You can be mostly A, but with a fair bit of B and a squidge of C and D, but people will still call you A because that's the majority, even if you're completely different to most other A's.

the way your style has been changing over the last few years is interesting. While i do miss watching your drinking games and continuity screen cards its also amazing to see how you've turned towards these inspirational bits that are actually really moving. Kinda like doctor wolf without as much psychology mixed in most of the time, and more explanations on why the the feelings these characters invoke are valued and justified regardless of sex or gender. While ill miss the fun and games of the past this more serious turn in your content is definitely a good one. It may seem like i'm making this comment a little late but i sadly don't have much time to watch your videos let alone comment on them. Very well-done. It is not often that this kind of discussion is made among the community, and I heavily encourage similar discussions in the future. The more we understand others, the better we can get along and communicate well. Really, I would love if you could analyze other archetypes like this. Understanding many perspectives and personalities is something I really enjoy, and I believe that you (and maybe Dr. Wolf as well) are really good at presenting these in an easily accessible way.

Thank you. Good analysis but the super epic mega rainboom was the part of the perfect ending to my day. Thanks again /)

I think the biggest thing about an Amazon is that they see in performance and want their friends to be the best that they can be. That drive can make them come across as quite insensitive to those without that same inner passion, or those that have a different view on what "advancement" means.

I can only comment on this video here and not in the Equestria Daily post, because I've had to ban myself from their comments section. They hurt me one too many times, and I won't give them the satisfaction of hurting me more. That said, good presentation, Silver.

A good example of the Amazon as well? Sailor Jupiter. She’s almost 6 feet tall, is super strong and wears a delinquent esque attire. But she loves making clothes and is a great cook. She accepts her feminine side but is still a physical power house

The Third Doctor said something once that makes me think of the Amazon, and Rainbow Dash, "Courage isn't a matter of being afraid you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway."

It's one of those things where I want you to go back to talking about episodes, but at the same time these videos are super interesting... Stop playing with my emotions! I'm not your puppet!

oh wow, never thought i could relate to a shadow of a archetype, but i have a lot of that "victim" one :/

"It's not the absence of fear, but rather it's defeat." Green Lantern Rainbow Dash anyone?
