Linda is the woman of many musical hats. She goes so deep. And her philosophy on life is humble and giving. Though she didn't mince words. A beautiful soul.

@dressler37 Really? It is ok, but the original is really naked, and the lyrics express this. With all these double tracks, and backing singers, doesn't it really take away from the meaning of the song? Isn't the power Neil's lonely tenor almost tearing apart the power of this song? Have you heard it?

Funny how Linda wanted to cry and Neil wanted to get "high".
@mrsvle
@mrsvle 7 жыл бұрын
I'm probably in the minority here but I think "felt like I could cry" is a much better lyric and more fitting to the mournful lamenting quality of the song than "felt like getting high" which I think is rather lame, like Neil Young couldn't quite find the right words for that line.

My condolences, - but even that experience pales in comparison to having to _take life_ Fwiw, my mother was an ensign pharmacists mate 1st class and served from '42 to '47 at Pearl putting maimed kids back together. Ask any Vet that killed if they would've rather died than have that experience, the honest ones will set you straight.

I really like Linda's voice on this song and the arrangement is nice, but what bothers me are the lyrical changes like "in the 20th century" instead of "in the 1970's" or "I felt like I could cry" instead of "I felt like getting high". No, Linda, no. Those little things fucking change the whole song, and not for the better.
@davidcunningham2984
@davidcunningham2984 9 жыл бұрын
Matt Van Vrancken The meaning of the song applied more in the later twentieth century and even more now in the twenty first century than it even did in the 1970's. "I felt like I could cry" probably adds more to the meaning than the original line (sort of like the old commercial with the native American with the tear in his eye). In any event Neil Young approved the changes. He didn't think the meaning was changed.
@titusgray4598
@titusgray4598 9 жыл бұрын
Jake Miller I do remember reading that Neil approved the changes. That has a lot of weight. I just think they were changes made to censor the more risqué lines of the song and to me as a songwriter I wouldn't do that. Jim Morrison didn't do that, and John Denver didn't do that. Why a songwriter of their caliber would do that I don't understand.
@davidcunningham2984
@davidcunningham2984 9 жыл бұрын

Matt Van Vrancken Wow you sure went hard on me. I think I might cry. So let me see if I've got this right. You're telling me that the money was more important to Neil than his words. So he's really kind of a sell out. Party on dude.

I found it hard to find the song, I could barely remember it, but KZbin came up with Neil Young, i knew it was not this? Then i found this version! This is so wonderful, what a lovely voice she has?
