Hi Kieth, When we spin casted turbine bearings we would fill the holes and voids with plaster of paris and after it sets up, we would throw it in the oven for a couple of hours to drive out the moisture. Also, on motor bearings such as the one you have there, we would either puddle or T.I.G. the babbit wire in to the tinned pre-heated shell depending on the biuldup amount needed. After every pass, we would "Peen" the beads with a ball peen hammer to minimize shrinking and pulling on the joint lines.

When I started at Ford Engine Engineering - before RTV sealers came along - we had stuff everyone called “Gorilla Snot”, and another sealer called “Peanut Butter”. My wife’s grandparents were Swedish immigrants. One day her grandmother sent one of the boys to the hardware store to buy a pound of window glass putty. The Swedish word for putty is - SHIT! No joke.

The word you're likely thinking of is "kitt", which also means putty and infrequently means shit, but in general people say "spackla" for putty, like in English.

Nice that you have ac, that wouldn't be pleasant down here in the Florida heat, it's brutal. The pour looks good

There is a commercial right after your video, do you receive money from it?
@KeithFenner3 ай бұрын
I have two choices, momontize or not. Google and You Tube are in control of the commercials, acordingly to your algarythems and what they want you to see!

What would preclude filling the oil chambers with sand?

Good question, Babbitt bearings are soft and boured in place, giving a chance of grit or other abrasive materials a chance to be embedded and held in the surface location to start a scoring condition is why I wouldn't.
