Hi Stacey, I've been sorting my scraps by color and making reusable grocery bags out of them. They came out so pretty! Instead of using batting, I used medium weight iron on interfacing. Since the bag is lined, the interfacing works well to make a sturdy but light-weight bag.

Oh, so glad I found this tutorial. I have been sorting through a few years of scrap fabrics from when my daughter use to make and sell pioneer costumes for a local history farm. I have color sorted them and was looking at them the other day wondering what to do with them...this looks like so much fun - a great winter project. I have not really quilted before - but you made this look easy enough - thinking I might make a pillow cover to start! thank you - very thorough explanations.

Love this!! I have been doing this for years 😀 I have a huge basket of scraps and make what I call crazy blocks between projects. I trim them to 6.5" and keep them in a basket till I have enough for a large lap quilt. I then add sashing between the blocks and have a cheerful quilt! If the quilt ia going to a child, I will make an I SpY list for them as well.

I love this! I'm just wondering, do you need to finish the inside edges with a zigzag stitch or a serger of will they stay put like that?
@staceyleecreative

Hi, no you don't. We sew back over them when making a project. We don't use sergers for quilting

Hi Colleen! It's a wool mat. My ironing board cover was driving me crazy with the stains, so I decided to try a wool mat because many people really like them, and I think they are less prone to stains 😊

Hi, what a great idea. I notice that you don't backstitch, is it not necessary? And is there no need for overlocking first?
@staceyleecreative
@staceyleecreative Жыл бұрын
No backstitch and no overlocker required for this. In fact I don’t own an over locker. They are not required for quilting type projects.

The About info box on you gives a US address, but I swear that's a Kiwi accent! I'm wondering if the scraps are all aligned in terms of direction of material - I'm not sure of the right terms, but the way the threads face, is it weft and weave? Or bias? Basically a straight edge could be cut on any angle? Or is it along the thread lines? I've seen another video that demonstrated a similar technique, and I couldn't tell there either, they used straight edges but it didn't matter if the edge was in squares/rectangles like yours were, they could have been on diagonals, but it wasn't clear if even with the diagonal they had somehow matched the underlying material direction. It looks more likely with your squares/rectangles that you are ensuring the underlying material direction is matched, but could you please clarify? Many thanks, from an interested Kiwi (who would also appreciate measurements in metric if possible ;) )

Hi, yes I am a kiwi living in the USA. If you want your fabric facing in a certain direction you should do that. We sewing piecing in all directions when quilting so we don't worry the weft and weave. Quilting is always done in inches, even in NZ. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
