Marvel was run by the Toy Biz owner, Ike Perlmutter, back then and he saw how well Wolverine’s action figures were selling. Every single on screen choice that he made was to sell more action figures. He even chose Iron Man over Captain America as the first MCU film solely on the fact that he thought kids would rather play with a character in a robotic suit that could fly.

Gambit was never toxic in the old show he was honorable, he dedicated himself to someone who can’t touch anyone despite being able to easily get anyone he wants (his introduction in the first episode is a clerk trying to get in his pants) and Rogue loved him for it, she would have a panic attack when she thought Gambit was hooking up with someone. Gambit in the one episode dedicated to him proved he was both an honorable man and a respectable X-Man, he didn’t need 97 for that, this latest episode just showed what fans would’ve expected out of him. No one ever questioned if Rogue would’ve hooked up with Gambit if she could since it was obvious, as much as Gambit loved her he cared for her overall moreso, thats why he constantly hanged around her to keep her company, and why he was cool here with giving Rogue some Magneto time to figure out what real love is. Gambit was a player before Rogue and a real man after Rogue.

Agreed. Gambit was, (as the comment above states) a confident ladies man, but he was loyal to Rogue. Gambit never displayed inappropriate behaviour towards her. He cared for her deeply and I believe she did too. So much so that she didn't want to hurt him because of her powers. He claimed he could take it but she didn't want to take the risk of hurting someone she loved. Another sad part about this episode for me was that he died not knowing that she realised love goes beyond physical touch, and chose him over Magneto 😢

I’m sorry but saying that the 90’s show gambit was creepy is a gross misrepresentation and misunderstanding of he character. One of his memorable lines is “Gambit don’t EVER go where he’s not invited” At one point maybe that’s the habits he had, but the flirting is 100% part of his act. That’s surface level. When in reality that man is 100% ready to spend the rest of his life with rogue despite knowing he may never get what a lesser man would leave her for. Because he loves her he exhibits the deepest amount of patience, respect, and restraint. He’s not just chasing after something he can’t have. He’s not trying to push her boundaries, but he’s persistent because he wants her to know they he doesn’t give a flying flip whether she can actually touch him or not. Rogue fully believes that a man could never truly love her because they can’t touch her, but Remy wants her regardless. He’s constantly suggesting dates and outings and other ways to spend time with her that don’t involve something physical. He shows HER that love is more than skin deep and there were several moments where he did that in the original series, as well. He’s willing to wait for her, he’s a different and more redeemed man than the thief that he was before he joined the X-Men. And that’s not to say that Rogue’s worth is determined by whether a man loves her or not. Of course that is NOT true But she cares about Remy and at times encourages his advances and at times turned him away because of how much hurting him or anyone else scares her.

Episode 5 was such a fantastic episode and highlights Remy's many sides. A comedic relief, hopeless romantic, insane acrobatics, the brash hero and the selfless sacrifice at the end. While I think Cable's time-traveling shenanigans will fix everything, I kinda hope he doesn't. Because after giving this some thought, this could be awesome if they left the deaths unchanged, because it means we may get Revolutionary Cyclops. We saw in the episode how pissed he was BEFORE the massacre happened, this will definitely push him over the edge, maybe make him start his X-Force team like in the comics. Also, notice how Emma wasn't in the 'dead mutants' pile despite being next to Sebastian Shaw earlier, who is in that pile. If they follow the comics, it was this event with Genosha and the giant Sentinel that awakened her secondary mutation/power, her Diamond form, which saved her life. I think that might happen here, afterwards she joins the X-Men and maybe Scott's new lover, like again, maintaining comic canon.

Having him save the Morlocks was a super cool detail. In the comics he helped Sinister assemble the Marauders who killed a lot of Morlocks in the Mutant Massacre. When they later discovered this, he was expelled from the X-Men for a time. So when he swung in through the window to save the day it was the cherry on top.

Sorry to be the um actually guy but during the Christmas episode storm gives Callisto full leadership of the Morlocks after not doing anything for them since getting the position. If I remember right Callisto lost her role to storm in that duel, then was acting leader until that episode. So the morlocks really don’t have a leader right now, theirs is fully dead.

My home office has some of our FunkoPop "couples". Rogue & Gambit, Baby & Johnny, Wayne & Garth, Corbin Dallas & Leeloo. I got up from my desk the day after that episode, locked eyes with little Gambit, standing next to little Rogue. Teared up and muttered 'those mother fuckers'. I'm hoping that, with Cable trying to stop the event, that he WILL stop the event, and the most important couple (to me) in comic history will be reunited.

Magneto's German was translated strangely. Had = have, Kiene = No, Angst = Fear. When you read "dont be afraid" it comes off like death language. "Have no fear" hits totally differently.

I don't think Magneto is dead, and I don't think the Wild Sentinel was targeting him. If you look closely the targeting system is actually tracking Leech, he just happens to be laying on Magneto. In addition, if Leech touched magneto and took his powers, then the Sentinel would no longer detect him.

Magneto is a confirmed Omega level mutant. Omega level means that the mutant power is powerful enough to become a global threat. For example, Magneto can reverse the Earth’s magnetic poles or remove its atmosphere, leading to the destruction of all life. Leech is an Epsilon or Beta level mutant - the two weakest class of mutant. He can only depower or severely weaken other mutant powers of those that stand within ten feet of him.

That’s the thing Gambit is one of the most powerful mutants in the comics he just rarely was able to showcase it in the series since he wasn’t the most popular one. He was my favorite X man. I hope one day they’ll build a series or movie to pick up his character. I agree with most everything you said! he went out heroically.

The creator said this is not that universe. Feige states that the MCU is 616, which is stupid. 616 are the comics. And the MCU is an adaption of the comics. He should have just said something arbitrary like the MCU is 617.

Something that stuck out to me was the wild sentinel looking at Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit and stating he located an omega mutant. We think it's Magneto, but in the comics, Sinister gave Gambit a sort of lobotomy to tone down his powers from omega. I wonder if that was a little nod to foreshadow he was also an omega and had already been selectively lobotomized? That can't be nothing...

Gambit was always my favorite. The 92 xmen were my introduction to the comic world. 2nd grade I was drawing Gambit. He was the coolest character and everyone lovwd him. Rest in piece Gambit.

I believe Leech is now able to control his power at this point. Early in the episode, he is playing near Rain Boy, Glob, and Pixie. No one loses their power in that scene. With that said, I believe that Magneto went subterranean to save himself and the Morlocks. The minute they did, Leech activates his powers, which fools the Sentinel's sensors into believing the threat was neutralized.

“Gambit don’t EVER go where he’s not invited.” I think just saying “oh yeah gambit was problematic in the original series” shows a deep misunderstanding of his character and cheapens the relationship he has with rogue. As a young woman who first watched the original 90’s series during lockdown in 2020, in the first few episodes gambit wasn’t my favorite, and I found Rogue annoying. I didn’t find him creepy, necessarily. I don’t exactly always gravitate towards those types of “sauve” male characters. I’m into the awkward nerds. But Gambit’s character is neat because his entire story is a redemption arc. At one point he WAS a bit of a womanizer, or maybe not really that but he was a thief and learned to resort to less than wholesome tactics to survive. And from what I understand in the comics the buy guy has a LOT of guilt and regrets about his past and the morloch massacre and all of that. The thing is, or at least how I’ve always interpreted it, by the time he joins the X-men and after he meets rogue, he is so much more mature than that. There is an element of “he wants rogue because he can’t have her” But it’s so much more than that. His flirting is part of his character façade, same as the 3rd person talking and the excessive French. (That’s not how Cajuns sound, btw, but for the record I know a few Cajuns who call everybody Cher) This is getting lengthy but basically, him having moments where maybe he gets to close to her is NOT because he doesn’t respect her as a woman. From my understanding, it’s not that he is just creepily overtaken by lust and can’t keep his hands to himself. It’s special because he doesn’t care about getting hurt. He doesn’t turn her away and he wants her to know he’s not gonna give up on her, and she feels like literally everyone will. It’s persistent, but it’s not like she isn’t encouraging it or flirting back. But the key is that he grows to care about her and IS the one to learn that things are so much more than skin deep. That man is prepared to love her for the rest of his life without ever being able to touch her. The point of Remy is that he does value her despite not being able to get what a lesser man would want, and despite her considering herself unlovable

I’m surprised there was no mention of them possibly reversing this Infinity War-like event, the bigger thing Cable said wasn’t “He’s coming” but rather “No, not AGAIN” meaning this wasn’t his first attempt at preventing this. I’m fully expecting a Cable episode following his journey in all this, and probably setting up an Endgame-like conclusion. I mean let’s just be real here, Magneto and Gambit are too popular to stay dead, the show won’t even commit to Storm’s powers being gone there’s no way they’re committing to this. But the biggest line they crossed was killing Leech, that’s how you know without a doubt this is getting reversed, Leech was just a poor innocent child finally given a good childhood, just for this.
