Hi Trevor, Many thanks for this video. Your information was really helpful, helping myself and an installer figure out what the rat nest or wires was. Radio now installed properly, working.

Great video, very matter of fact. I have a 1990 300 SEL and the rear speaker cover basically disintegrated in my hands as well. In the first part if the video, they make head unit removal clips that just push in underneath both sides of the front bottom of the radio to remove the head unit. However, I needed to remove the center console to refurbish that so I am glad I found your video.

Becker will give you the code free of charge just call them. I had the same issues with my 1990 500SL. Be sure to keep the original radio.

Hello, this video got me further, I have an w124 230e from 1990 and my old Becker radio isn't working so I would like to buy my self a new radio, I have found some but the connectors aren't the same in any way, the old radio said 2*20 watt and the new says 4*40watt, am I able to use the new one? My connectors are almost the same you have, thank you and greetings from Germany

The old radio says 2x20w because it only has 2 channels. Left and right. The volume is distributed front to rear via the scroll wheel in the center console. The new radio as with all new radios has 4 channels delivering 40w arms each. This means you can connect the 2 rear channels to your existing wiring or do 4 independent channels like I did. The speakers will work just fine. You will actually notice an improvement in sound quality because of the increased output. Just don't use it cranked up all the time. You risk blowing your factory speakers.

Most aftermarket radios have standardized wire colors on the plug in harness. When installing connect your red wire to the black wire with yellow tracer and yellow wire to the red wire with white tracer. You should be fine

@@trinipattan1472 thank you very much for your quick and helpful awnser, I will order a new radio this week and I am going to install it, I am just worried that I am not going to be able to get to the scroll wheel connections without taking apart the center console like you did, but hey if I have to then I will do it. And the annoying thing about the old radio is the missing code and so the radio is locked up it has to be resettled by the Mercedes factory but they told me it's too old 😂 it is a three digit Becker Europa 749 have a nice day and thank you very much

@@trinipattan1472 hey it's me again, I just got a new radio with Bluetooth from Blaupunkt, I installed it yesterday and it was done in 15 minutes and I didn't even had to do anything with my scroll wheel, gladly back then they connected everything with plugs so it's easy to work with. But I am so happy now, the sound is awesome for 30 year old speakers. Thank you greetings from Germany, Lars

Nice job, how did you deal with the antenna? I was told that for my 400e it goes through an internal amp and the wiring is a nightmare, is that true?

Man, you are too rough when dealing with these old cars. Take your time, don't break unnecessary parts, please! Old cars = brittle cars.

Wow how bad dose that radio look.
@Bohdi12342 жыл бұрын
Way more than what you have to do. The radio has flat instalation keys that go into the bottom front coners to release the radio from mounting frame. Speakers wires are low inpedance going to amps in the trunk. Watch other videos here to see much simpler insalations. Get the wiring harness adapter kit so you can plug new radio into existing harness. Sorry dude you have no idea what you are doing.
