Afternoon Tea Sandwiches

In the video today we will make some traditional British Afternoon Tea Sandwiches. We will make four classic finger sandwiches, Coronation chicken sandwiches , Egg mayonnaise sandwiches, Cucumber sandwiches and Salmon Sandwiches. These are simple to make and perfect to serve at an afternoon Tea Party. If you would like to add some scones or cakes to your tea party then please check out the channel for these recipes. Ingredients
Coronation Chicken
Brown sliced Bread lightly buttered.
1 tbs Mango chutney ( recipe below)
1 tbs Mayonnaise
1 tbs Yogurt
¼ tsp curry Powder
2 Chicken Breasts ( shred into little pieces)
Baby Green salad leaves (Optional Extra)
Salt & Pepper
Cut off the crusts!
Egg & Mayonnaise
White sliced Bread ( Butter Your bread)
2 hard Boiled eggs ( add to boiling water for 8 Min)
1 tbs mayonnaise
2 chives chopped up
Salt & Pepper
1 pinch of Paprika ( optional Extra)
1/3 Tbs Wholegrain Mustard
Watercress or Baby green salad leaves
Cut off the crusts!
Smoked Salmon and Cream cheese
Toasted brown sliced bread cut into shapes
2-3 tbs of Cream cheese
2 Chives chopped up
Ground black Pepper
Zest of one lemon and the juice from half a lemon
Top with some black pepper and fresh dill with an extra drizzle of lemon juice.
Cucumber Sandwiches
White sliced bread
Peel your cucumber
I personally prefer a sandwich without the cucumber seeds, so I like to cut strips of cucumber with the vegetable peeler. Alternatively you could just cut thin slices with a knife.
A few extra tips
Take the butter /Cream cheese out of the fridge before using as this will ensure that it is sort and easy to spread on your fresh bread.

I hold dual Canadian - British citizenship as my Canadian father fought in WW2 where he married my British mother and I was born there. I have spent many periods working in London over the years. One thing their supermarkets have that we do not is pre-made tubs of sandwich fillings like coronation chicken, chicken tikka massala, tuna, salmon, etc. Makes making sandwiches so easy.

A great idea is having different types of bread , l love to serve some dark brown thin flat bread with thin smoked lamb & another dark brown bread with a good slice of Swiss. So many choices even shrimp salad with a bit of caviar garnish. So many ideas come to mind.

I cover and place the sandwiches between two cutting boards and refrigerate two hours before removing crusts and slicing. This ensures your sandwiches are neat, tidy and easy to handle when placing on server, club sandwiches included.

​@@bettyparker3476 From what I've read, it got its poor reputation in the 20th century as a result of: * Many years of rationing due to the two World Wars, with the Great Depression squeezed in between, plus various other extended periods of austerity, all making cooking with butter, meat, sugar, and imported goods more difficult. (These crises also lead to the collapse of the aristocratic house kitchens, and with it their institutional knowledge, where much of the advanced forms of British food culture had been carried out.) * At the same time, the rise of processed foods and standardization was making food (and drink, see e.g. the "Campaign for Real Ale") bland and homogeneous all across the industrialized world (including here in the USA). So together, for visitors to the UK (who would then write home complaining about British cooking), or even for locals in the cities, trying to get a meal that best represented the English/British culinary tradition was often tricky for much of the 20th century. The countryside had it better in availability, but was limited to what was local, but then this got taken from granted (and many people didn't realize how special what they had was; many a British cheesemaking tradition died or nearly died this way by the 1970s, replaced by generic mass-produced industrial cheeses) Add to this being ever under the comparison shadow of French cooking, which has dominated Europe ever since the modern restaurant developed there (itself an outgrowth of the French Revolution, which resulted in a large number private cooks suddenly needing to find new work, and hanging out their shingle to serve a burgeoning middle class), and which in turn produced the great restaurant cookery treatises by Careme and Escoffier. Thus French haute-cuisine was the standard by which all else was measured. Thankfully, the interest in the last few years in a move away from canned and processed food, toward more local, farm-sourced, flavorful food with local terroire (The BBC TV series "Pie in the Sky" depicts this renaissance well), as well as in cultural heritage at risk of being lost, has really favored a return of interest in classic British cookery.

@@Mr.56Goldtop I reply to spam or questions with variable tone. This was without additional tone. I am a fan of bacon grease as opposed to mayo on some sandwiches. Not all the time. I feel like if the sandwich has lettuce on it, you would use mayo, though. If it were like bacon and tomato or a bacon melt, perhaps just bacon grease.

I had a canned salmon sandwich with some Earl Grey the other day, that was my "version" of English tea time as an American. I think I did a pretty good job lol

Arugula wiuld be a good substitute for watercress. Also i think a dijon mustard better than whole grain in egg sandwiches
