Ah memories! I remember I was a kiddie in '81 when Mum & Deddy hired a Microbus to haul us six kids from Pinelands to Addo Elephant Park for family holiday! Such a journey in our Alfetta would have been unbearable!

The colour red has gained a different political meaning in South Africa of late.Beware of red vehicles or red clothing. It could be deemed ominous. The nostalgia for more civilised times in South Africa's history remains.

Innaman Joubert thanks for this insight. From Germany (where I live) I didn’t follow politics of SA too closely. I never realized that the volksyvan family is wearing predominantly red clothings. Does this have had a meaning back then? What’s the meaning you’re referring to today? Thanks!

@@flughasenstrafe It symbolises communisim or the idealogical predisposition by someone as value system in Souith Africa.Otherwise it signifies the color of blood or worn at funerals by some woman in some African tribes or men of higher social standing. In other parts of the world it is mearly a vibrant highly visible colour like a ladybug. My favourite bird is the Southern Red Bishop that has no political motive neither can they drive a VW.
