in my experience as a student, in highschool, at cornell (before it was a fuckin' meme) and being a writer for some decently sized channels here on youtube, I've. noticed: rarely do actual idiots think they are idiots. in reality, people who know their weaknesses and have that sense of humility are far more intelligent and likely to do well in their efforts than people who refuse to acknowledge their weaknesses. You're still giving up the same material. Black can still exchange the piece for the pawn, but they have control over that choice. Black will run the pawn up to a2, the knight to b4, and has time to run the king up to the corner to threaten either knight. Note: this isn't my personal analysis, it's from stockfish.

Many GM’s often resign too soon, in my opinion, because they can calculate that they are in a losing position. The fan favorites are usually the players who bring the fighting spirit.

How could the first game and the Nodirbek Abdusattorov game in the same tournament be the only two times these first 18 moves were played? I wonder if some prep sharing is happening. Magnus seems to struggle against Vincent... Vincent seems mentally stronger where most people would waiver... I've seen Magnus try and fail multiple times to break him. Although of course when push comes to shove in clutch situations like in the world cup Magnus comes out on top. Usually they draw in situations where Magnus would normally win. I mean this game is a bad example haha but apart from this one that's what I've noticed.

I looked at this benoni line as well. It's... uh, it's one of those things Magnus makes look good but in my hands it would be a disaster. It's not very good to begin with, black's win rate in it is pretty awful in comparison to other alternatives (still in the Benoni), and it looks hard to play in general.

Black will keep advancing the pawn to queen anyways after moving the knight away. You might think the worse that can happen is that you still give up a white knight for the promoted queen, so it leads to the same outcome... but that's not the case. Black can challenge the knight defending the promotion square with its own knight, so black gets a queen. So, sure, the white knight can "get back into the game", but it's not quick enough to lead to a better outcome.

The knight is too far away to help with the defense of the pawn so Bishop C3 and whites knight closer to the pawn can't enter the game either and defend giving ample time to push the pawn to queen

Agreed. It's understandable if your opponent is low on time. But it's the opposite? Magnus has 30 minutes and Keymer has only 6 minutes during the first pause the video moment. At that point you're just being annoying if you didn't resign

Although I'm probably not qualified to offer an opinion, my understanding is that being up a minor piece at this level of play pretty much guarantees the player who is up a piece will win although I must admit it was not that easy for Magnus to prove it in this case although he obviously did.
