The situation on the clock should really be mentioned here! Magnus was down by almost an hour for much of the middle game, and was playing with less than a minute on the clock for most of that extremely complicated endgame that even the commentators couldn't understand. So while the game ultimately ended in a draw, Magnus definitely played a more impressive game here!
@DagarMan0

don't get me wrong, it is impressive, but he can use the opponents time to think as well. that he found the best responses to everything mvl did even with that being considered is still insane!

@@DagarMan0 MVL probably played fast too, so he wont let Magnus think on his own time, thats why he missed atleast the first pause the video moment. He might have even found the second one, but if you are not sure a position is winning, or you have a winning move, you might just play for the time, and thats defenatly what happened here

He didn't "lets the win slip away", understanding why gxh is winning (rather than any other move) is just out of human comprehension. Vlad Tchakiev (in French) explained that to win from this, with perfect play from Magnus, you have to go through an endgame (rook+pawn in h5 vs bishop) that require a sequence of 14 only-move to keep the win. MVL had the lead for sure, but was never "winning" from a human perspective. Of course, amazing play for Magnus who managed to never do "human" mistakes with 1 min on the clock.

@devadathans5506

Its easy for even other GMs to say if one side is better or not, but when playing, they have to consider every possibility of opponent's attack and also, even if they find the best move, they hae to look for better. Playing and commentating are two different things.

@@alnazeerbasheer1099 He wasnt lucky to hold the draw. Thats skilled. He was lucky that MVL didn convert. Can you see the difference. The good thing is that it wasnt an easy winning convertion so magnus had his chances when MVL couldnt convert. There are easy converting games where magnus wouldve lost most likely but here, luckely MVL had a hard position to convert. Other that lucky, MVL couldve thought a bit more the first chance he had but he didnt think too much maybe cause he didnt recognize the position as a -3 or the opposite, thought that it was a bit easier to convert, his mistake. But to hold the 0,0 wasnt lucky, the lucky part was to get it by MVL blunderred. Then after MVL blunderred came the hardest, and not lucky, to hold it

Supermasters must have a hunch if the position is winning or not. Maxim had a 1 hour time advantage. If you have a hunch that the position is winning, you slow down and calculate till the very end. Once you find the absolute win, best responses don’t make a difference, time is no longer a factor. Maxim played on Magnus’ time and didn’t believe his position is winning.

On those rare occasions where Magnus doesn't play all of the top engine recommendations, he still is blessed by extreme luck.

This kind of thing always happens with players/teams who are the best at their game, I've seen it In many sports and games. Not sure what it is but the best often find a way to not lose even when they should

Exactly even though, magnus needed to play very carefully with 30 seconds :0. Only had this moment that only one move draws and the other loses. Thats how he got lost like three times, like magnus losing, drawing, losing again, then draw and at the edge of a blunder. I can tell you, it was dmn hard but considerin mvl had +20 minutes, he would ve won but he kinda played in few minutes and didn use his big and easy advantage, the time

Magnus’s “extreme luck” is probably because the opponents generally assume that he doesn’t make mistakes/blunders and I’d say this speaks more about the opponents’ skill level and inability to take advantage of such situations and not Magnus’s luck.
