#suggestion Janowski-Lasker, Cambridge Springs, 1904. The sacrifices started right from the opening and Janowski went all out in the final round to win. He didn’t let the World Champ castle, sacrificed the exchange and even his queen for the black king. I don’t think anyone has really covered it at all, so a good suggestion, I hope.

This is a spectacular post by Antonio. That Kasparov’s inimitable brilliance in this game is corroborated by modern engines, despite the comparisons by Kasparov’s contemporaries to Tal’s more dubious attacks, is a goosebump laden thrill. Kasparov still holds the keys to the GOAT mantle, imho.

yeah Kasparov took Tal's energetic but chaotic style and polished it to be more scientifically precise. He believed in organically building the potential energy of his pieces and only then unleashing hell instead of trying to force complications like Tal. As great as Tal was, Kasparov's tweaks are what led to his incredible consistency and becoming the longest reigning world #1

At 9:29, once White takes with N on g5, there's a faint hint of smothered mate in the air, and this is due to the pawn on d7 now blocking the Black queen's view across the 7th rank; with Nf7+, Black would have to capture with the rook because on Kg7, Nh7++ etc. Of course Black would absolutely take the N with the R. Great story about Tal's phone call to Kasparov on the eve of the latter's championship-winning game! This is one of my favorite aspects of your videos--not that these are simply nice anecdotes, but that you provide the contexts that humanize these players.

This is an odd game, in that Kasparov looked so far ahead in position early in the game that his victory seemed inevitable, but in reality victory could only be brought home with extremely precise play by white. I could not personally have played with the precision necessary to bring the win home. I'm sure I could have drawn with my imprecise moves, but the win would have eluded me. It reminded me of many of my draws against the LiChess engine, in which I knew I had a win but ended up with a draw for lack of precision.

What would be cool, having a retired legend like GK come on and analyze one of his great games and talk through the moves as he thought during the game. I had a history professor who assign us to visit VFW’s (veteran of foreign wars) to interview WWI Vet’s since in the 70’s they were passing away very quickly. With Karpov not feeling well, it would be fantastic if any of the greats would be up for it here. Just a thought.

Agadmator often makes reference to "sad bishops", who have been assigned to protecting pawns from behind and thus been demoted from a bishop to a pawn. Well, in this game Kasparov brilliantly lured black into demoting his queen into a pawn, early in the game having forced the queen to sit behind a knight and pawn to protect them, That was indeed a sad queen, who contributed nothing to black the whole game.

At 15:00 I thought the good move for White was Rd8. If Black takes rook with with bishop, then it's checkmate. If Black takes with rook with rook, then there's a great combo where the white Queen says check 3 times and all Black's minor pieces come off. So, Black cannot take. The best delay seems to be ..Ne8, but White brings his other guns in with Re1.This seems to be winning, eventually, but Agadmator's move is sharper. Thank you for another good show!

Gary worked so hard, his idols became his rivals. Still behooves me whether chess is something that one can have a natural inclination for ( like your naturally gifted), or is it something you culminate through years of hard work. Chess is hard because, even with all the hours of work, there is that level of prep and memorization. For me the most idealistic way to play is what the engine would say, but my human side and what I want votes for the 2+2=5 forest, and all the nuances and intricacies of position that almost is fun with human doubt involved.

15:07 rook to d8 is also a winning move I guess. If rook f8 captures rook d8 then queen take bishop f6 is check and after the king move queen f6 capture rook d8. And if the knight blocks after at e8 just capture the knight with rook, then rook f8 x rook e8.. we can still take bishop with check and continue... Or queen to d6 , threatening knight and rook
