I also thought about this. Should switch up a bit. Many other positive words to describe a "nice" rook lift :-)
@lothor695 жыл бұрын
Because you usually want them controlling open files because of their reach. So when you place them Infront of a lot of pawns and pieces it looks odd "Unless it's not"

You could have a rook lift which ends up in mate for the lifter, lose material, enter into a strategically unsound position... a nice rook lift improves your position.

At 15:05 I think an easier way to win for Black would be 1... Qh3 and there is nothing White can do to stop Qc8 blockading the pawn. Of course the method shown in the video is also very nice but in an endgame where you may likely be low on time Qh3 may be the more practical option. Great video!! :)

Carlsen's end-game skill is very impressive! He seems to play out what appear to be drawn, or even lost, positions and convert them into a win far more often than anyone has any business being able to win. And he does it against some of the strongest players in the world. THNX 4 another great analysis of another interesting game. Good bye everyone! P

I like how in both games Carlsen won by basically one move. With Anand it was the pin on the bishop and here he needed the check otherwise it's a draw. Yes he didn't NEED to do this but I agree. It's poetic.

@chessandmathguy4 жыл бұрын
14:42 you mentioned Navara played Kd4 and then resigned. That's probably not what happened. He simply resigned. The reason why you might get Kd4 on the move list is because after a Black victory they place the kings on d4 and e5. Also, 15:02 after h1Q Kd6 easiest is Qh3 to c8.

After 59 ... h1= Q+ 60. Kd6 Carlsen can just play 60 ... Qh3, guarding the queening square, followed by 61 ... Qc8, blockading the pawn. This is the easiest way to win Q v pawn, but the mating net method is also instructive.
@isaacm23325 жыл бұрын
Chess noob here so maybe I'm wrong,but at 9:56 couldn't black threaten mate with R2f3? If white were to promote the pawn with c8=Q then R8f4 would be checkmate... After 1 ...R2f3, 2. Rxf8 Rxf8 seems forced. Or am I missing something?

I think it's time for the fans to campaign for Antonio to enter a few big tournaments & get his fide rating up above 2000 where it belongs! Can I get a thumbs up?! Antonio Radic 1 Vishy Anand 0 = a helluva' lot of points! :) With Antonio having covered 42 of Vishy's games, I put his chances at 50/50. Because, with Antonio's fide rating being 1898, he has absolutely nothing to lose [other than making a amateur's blunder] and will have no pressure on him until he gets a winning advantage & has to make sure he doesn't spoil it. I would be willing to go a few weeks without a video from Antonio so he can test his mettle vs the Big Boys! ..... I've got 987 videos to review while he's competing.

This is crazy risky. Carlson was playing in a match which means he will play weaker OK lines early in the match to stretch his opponent and then deviate as the match progresses, playing stronger lines in the later games. This way he milks the most out of his deep preparation which will be at the level of computer assisted postal chess by a world champion. It is why I think Kasparov's assessment of Fischer in his books was inaccurate, because Fischer did the same thing with an opening variation to combat the Russian preparation machine. Now 2 players have tried to capitalize off this, which is great because we get to see the depth and breadth of Carlson's preparation.

Antonio.. Navara didn't play kd4 and resign.. That doesn't make any sense.. If one were to resign he would play kd6 and resign.. I think this is a case of Navara resigning after h2 from carlsen and the arbiters put the kings on black squares in the centre indicating black won.. And the stupid computer registered it as kd4
