The Côte d’Ivoire Rapid & Blitz is the 1st stage of the 2019 Grand Chess Tour, with World Champion Magnus Carlsen heading a 10-player field that features 7 tour regulars and wild cards Wei Yi, Veselin Topalov and Bassem Amin. The event takes place in the Pullman Abidjan Hotel in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from May 8-12 and has a $150,000 prize fund.
The rapid section is a single round-robin with 3 rounds each day on the first 3 days. The time control is 25 minutes for all moves and a 10-second delay from move 1. The final 2 days are a blitz double round-robin, with 18 rounds of 5 minutes + 3-second delay blitz. Rapid games count double, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw.

Well, I couldn't find the first move. I had the right idea as far as the possible mating pattern is concerned, but didn't see a way to start. I got stuck on trying to find a way to check mate and when I couldn't, I just gave up. I should have looked further, after all, PASSED PAWNS MUST BE PUSHED! As soon as I saw it, I realized that it was the only logical move. I recently studied GM Boris Alterman's video course "Power Pawns" which is full of sacrifices to get two connected passed pawns to the sixth and seventh ranks where they can't be stopped. Now that I had the right idea, I easily solved the second move quiz.

They say "the two bishops" is really good, sometimes worth 7 pawns (versus one bishop at 3). Two queens tend to block each other too much and might be worth only 16 pawns, versus the traditional 9 for one. But obviously position matters hugely when one side has two queens.

I practice being down 3 Queens in 1|0 chess, 2 is for rookies :D (needless to say that I always loose...)

I think I'll put this position which Carlsen has two queens and play against Stockfish, there are too many opportunities to blunder the game, and I'm certain Stockfish will teach me them.

Agreed! Don't know about you but I find it rude by Ian to keep playing, just resign the god damn game, you are plaing a 2900 and he has 2 fucking Queens, jesus... Talking about being a douche...

@@-_Nuke_- Crap! There were a thousand ways how to blunder and Nepo had 5 times more on the clock. And it's not the type of position where you are sure your oponent knows what he does.

My sense also. It's likeCarlson of years ago combined with Carlson the grinder, and Carlson the great endgame player. Stunningly good chess, even for slow time controls.
