Tigran Petrosian is my favorite world champion and chess player overall. He was a very humble and nice man who overcame adversity early in his life. I bought a two volume set of his games that came with a very nice biography. Reading through it, I grew to respect him as a man as well as a chess player. It is a shame his life was cut off too soon.

Petrosian had a hearing problem he wore a hearing aid. He offered a draw to Gligoric and Gligoric refused it, but after a while Gligoric re-offered a draw but Petrosian did not heard it because his hearing aid was turned off. Petrosian went on to win that game.

In the group picture at table, that’s Petrosian next to Keres. Agad made an observation that I’ve also noticed; Tal and Petrosian had similar profiles at similar ages. I’ve always admired Petrosian, he was a serious professional, deadly serous at the board, but affable and gregarious socially. He charmed everyone at Lone Pine back in the ‘70’s and clearly enjoyed his time there.

I've been watching agad's content for about 2 years now but always skimmed past Tigran games. I honestly wish I still did because now I am unable to rest at night because of Tigran. That line at 7:05 where the bishop just pops out after the rook is so coordinated and fierce...but simple? How does he do this brrr....

Fischer was only 18 years old in this tournament. Undefeated and he beat Tal (who was the WC at the time). Holy cow! I'm going to say that it was Tal in the photo eating lunch. You can see in the other photo that he was wearing a very dark/ black jacket and pants, whereas Petrosian was wearing lighter gray pants. The chances of Petrosian putting on a black jacket with grayish pants to eat lunch is minimal. Also you can't really see Tal's hands in that position but the other giveaway is his ear. Tal's ears were proportional, where as Petrosian's ears were huge compared to his head.

Petrosian was partially deaf and wore a hearing aid during his matches, which sometimes led to strange situations. On one occasion he offered a draw to Svetozar Gligorić, which Gligorić initially refused in surprise, but then changed his mind in a few seconds and re-offered the draw. However, Petrosian did not even respond, instead went ahead and won the game. As it turned out, he switched off his hearing aid, and did not hear when Gligorić re-offered the draw. In 1971, he played a candidates match against Robert Hübner in a noisy area in Seville, which did not disturb him, but frustrated Hübner so much that he finally withdrew from the match. - Wiki

In the days before chess lessons online, it constituted perhaps one of the best resources for improvement. I recently bought an abridged single volume version published by Dover titled 'Modern Chess Strategy', and look forward to revisiting this classic. Up there with the classics by Kmoch, Nimzovitch, Vukovic and Kotov.

You could find a bunch of good attacking games from Spassky in his march to the Championship of 1966 as he played matches against Tal, Keres, , Geller. There is a book by W. H. Cozens--Boris Spassky's Road to the Summit, that covers that plus games from the 1963 USSR Championship and the 1964 Interzonal Tournament, which has been gravely overlooked as a source of interesting games. Nobody had a harder road to the top than Spassky so it is no wonder that he was out of gas after losing to Fischer. They outta bring back the long interzonal tournaments too.

correct me if i am wrong but i recall that this game was published in a german magazine and the title was "I also did it! I sacrificed my queen!" from Tigran's mouth.

Fisher was a monster...even the second one, he lost none and defeated the winner. Btw, Fisher have the least lost games in chess history, around 80 only (but he didn't play many games, though...)
