Caruana made a pertinent point some time back when he said Alireza crossing 2800 means nothing unless Alireza is able to back it up with consistent victories over GMs of Caruana's class . Otherwise , the rating is just a number .

#suggestion Dubov vs Pragg Blitz portion of world rapid and blitz, 2023. I know it is long after, but I was just sent game, followers enjoy Dubov games. To my very amateurs eye, this game looks fun. Thanks for allowing me to become interested in chess at age 66. I recall being intrigued watching Fischer win world championship match on public television in the States, but never played. I missed the boat. Better laye than never.

For reference because it wasn’t clear to me when I first saw it Qb7 looks like it’s winning the black rook on a8 but there is Qb6 and if white takes the rook it gets trapped after the knight moves

Some day some one will start putting the time it takes for a particular move to be made, in addition to the clock-just so I don't need to do math. Someone will do it, then everyone will. I was a little confused why you don't take the pawn that moved to B5 with the C3 knight in the opening. I'm sure I'm just missing it.

These players study 24/7. But if you ask them they just play on intuition and never study computer lines. And then they proceed to only play computer lines. And then if they play one move out of theory commentators call them the next Tal. I dont know. Lots of talented players but chess is becoming less imaginative, andmore aligned with the engine.

That is the natural evolution of chess. There's nothing inherently wrong with it as the more players improve, the more their play style will feel engine-like. But engine-like moves shouldn't be discarded as any less imaginative than the games of Tal or Morphy. There's a lot of analysis and imagination involved in middle game to end game, even if the standard openings have become known theory nowadays

Nor Vidit, who obviously played him in a match and seems like quite a cool guy anyway. Amin is Hans' buddy, so not him either... And someone must have taken Hans' spot in the field as well, so that narrows it down to two or three. I hope not Arjun, so potentially just one player left who would maybe have some sway with the organisers...
