I see that a lot of people dont get how strong is Fabiano. He si precise like an engine and his preparation is fantastic. People find boring games he played in World championship with Magnus, but he is currently the only player in the world who is able to play 12 games against Magnus, arguably the best player ever, and not lose single one. If there was no Magnus, that guy would be champion for years.

@@tobiaszn6531 well, i dont actually root for him. I admire the quality of his calculation and his preparation is just amazing, so there's a reason his second ranked right? I agree there're a lot of brilliant players with much more charisma and style, who also apeers in every single competition. But we cant deny that Fabi is out of this world and a strong candidate to become the best. Guess he lacks "stage presence" and should improve his blitz and rapid rating, but in the end classical is all that matter for those guys. Personally i would like Nepo as the champion so we can see this crazy and awesome match: Carlsen against Nepominiachtchi. Dont get me wrong, i dont really think any of the candidates stand a chance against magnusboy, but if someone does that would be Fabi or Nepo.

When Magnus finally arrived (right around that Bb4 move) his immediate reaction was that he knew that Fabiano was deeply prepared using the strongest AI and that MVL was in bigggg trouble. Of course the champion was correct. Beautiful play by Fabiano!

Antonio, I was watching live the game listening to Magnus and David comments... So much respect for Fabiano Caruana because he converted extremely complicated end game to win. Magnius, David and Tanya could not find in the studionthe winning sequence of moves.I never seen Magnus that confused.... MvL defended perfectly but Fabiano performance was close to 3000, spectacular end game....

Pretty bonkers that after so much violence in the poisoned pawn variation you end up with a grinding endgame that requires absolute precision. Chess is amazing.

Just some extra information for the friends at the bar and in the library: Rustam Kasimjanov(Fabis second) joined the german stream yesterday for 5 minutes (he often comentates there as he speaks quite fluently german) to give some insights to this line. He said they have prepared c3 originally for Wijk aan Zee, but they thought its to strong for Wijk, so Fabi played Be2 in Wijk and also won the game. Rustam also said, that they didn't belive Maxime is able to find all moves, but Maxime seemed to do it. But instead of Ne4 Maxime should have gone Ra7, to save the rook, even though it's quite passive. After Ne4, Rustam said there is a bit of hope, that Fabi can win it, even though it was still a difficlut game. Rustam also mentioned that if black finds all moves white has to fight for a draw. Fabi took high risk and got rewarded for it. What a game and what a preparation! Awesome stuff.

Jozarov confirmed that in his analysis. There were a couple of engine lines that put Black in a positive position.

I feel like I see Maxime lose so many games in the Najdorf. Sure, I don't see all the games and tournaments MVL plays in, he has to have good reason for playing it so often, but I just feel like I see him lose in his pet line so much. Then you're going to go against Fabi, who expects you to play a Najdorf, and even further the poisoned pawn variation, and then will just force you to play against a supercomputer for 30+ moves. I get that hindsight is 20-20, but it just seems like a terrible idea to even let yourself go down this path.

10:50 "You can go to Knight to F6, but who does this?" ANSWER ; Stockfish 12 does and gives Black an advantage of 0.55 points. Follows 24 Nf4+ , Be6 25 Qxe6+, Qxe6+ 26 Nxe6 Kf7 27 Nc7, Ra7 28 O-O, Rd8, Bc5 ALSO IF 24 Nc7+ (instead of f4) with the intention of grabbing the Rook at A8 that doesn't work and Whites loses instantly because the black King escapes to Kf7 and if Knight takes de Rook at A8 then the other rook forks the White Queen by moving to e8.
