The bishop move at 6:25 isn't an overprotection because Morphy could potentially sac his bishop on c7 and then fork black's king and queen with nb6.

At 6:35 I think Bornemann played Bishop d8 to prevent Morphy from sacrificing the g3 Bishop on c7 because if there was only an e8 knight to protect c7 it couldn't protect b6 so white's d5 knight would move there and fork the king and queen but because Bornemann moved his bishop back, it's protected

Hey Agad, could you cover the game Nigel Short vs Bobby Fischer where Fischer did a big king walk in the opening? I do believe it is an online chess game played in 2001, but I am not so sure, so that's why I ask you this. Bobby (withe the black pieces mind you!) literally played f6, c6, Kf7, Ke6, Kd6, Kc7, Qe8 and then Kd8, all in the FIRST OPENING MOVES! I am enjoying very much the vurrent sagas you are showcasing, but I found out about this game recently, and the amount of disrespect Fischer had for Short is too great for me not to ask!! #suggestion

Morphy may well have been an artist, but he still knew how to torture an opponent in style when they refused to resign.
@Puschit13 жыл бұрын
Maybe that IS his form of art. And Agad said it: "He could play a safe but boring move but this be something for history to remember you" and that's what Morphy was trying to do in here and in other games. He was so far ahead that winning with style was not just an option, it was his goal. This also explains one or two of his losses where he tried to complicate and it backfired but all in all --- well, 150+ years later people are still studying his games and watch them for entertainment. So it worked.
