I remember hearing in a Seirawan lecture that Lasker was an engineer by trade and saw it as better to accomplish the same thing (#) with one piece (Kd2) rather than two (O-O-O), but I'm not sure if that's true.

If I saw that ending position out of context of the game I would have accused the person of making it up. This is beautiful. Seeing the Dark King stroll into opponent's territory, attacked on every move, only for the light king to move once and end the game, revealing that regicidal rook, is absolutely poetic. I met Edward Lasker. He died in the 1980s. He was friends with former World Champion Emanuel Lasker.
