I started playing again after 4 years after some guys in my class were playing at school. I usually play on Chess.com. After reaching to 1000 or something thanks to weird algorithm-Basically, I got 80 points or so per game because people kept resigning the games so I was catapulted into a higher league without any practice My rating dropped to like 700. I got back to 1000 in like 2 months thanks to this channel. Antonio is doing a great job.

At 14:24 on h7, instead of b4 could go R:h7. On white K:h7 comes black K:f5 and so on. Unfortunately, the white g pawn is still faster than the black b pawn so this comment doesn't make any difference... :( ~~~~~ "Life is like chess: you should always learn more about how to live." ~~~~~ I like your series a lot. Especially because I play chess since I was 4. (But I was never disciplined enough to play it really good.)

The reason I really enjoyed seeing this game was not just Gelfand's creativity with the bishop, but also Aronian's insight in not falling for the sequence of traps. It's a shame Levon doesn't seem to do well in the Candidates: I think he would be the strongest Challenger to Magnus.

Duncan W you mean Rf7+? You can take the rook on f1, but your rook on h7 is hanging after Kg6. Also, it would be impossible to protect the e7 pawn after that.

only very temporarily, after Rf1 the king can only escape to e6 and then rook captures on g6 forks the queen and black goes down to two rooks against a rook and a queen whilst still needing to deal with the passed pawn on e7. I think you're right that it doesn't lose immediately though
@puremercury
@puremercury 6 жыл бұрын
White can still play Rxg6. Black cannot capture with the queen, as Qxg6 is met with Rf1+. The queen is not protecting f4 anymore, so you cannot block with the rook on d4. If you do not take back, it would be a quick checkmate. If you take with the queen, Rf1+ wins it as the black king must move and leave her hanging. The best move for black would be Rd1+, forcing an exchange of rooks and buying time so the king can take on e7 and possibly escape.
