WHY hasn't the interceptor drone been introduced already? A small fast drone carried in numbers by each vehicle and even by each soldier, that rush to impact or detonate next to anythreatening drone. In WW1 fighter aircrafts were operational within months, and those were new concepts. A drone is extremely easy to detect on the bare sky. The drone has to be lightweight, thus it is soft and extremely vulnerable to any shock. An attack drone has to be large and expensive because it has to have longer range and a heavier payload, while an interceptor drone can be pocket sized and cheaply mass produced. Consumer toy electronics have cameras and software that easily can be modified to scan the sky and detect anything up there and where it is and how it moves. Interceptor drones could be a new outer layer of active armor that autonomously lift off to take out any slow vulnerable threat (i.e. drone) approaching. There have been innovations implemented during the Ukrainian war. But why not the interceptor drone? Apparantly I am missing something here, but what?

Point is, that as they get easier to take out, they also get harder to take out, so they never actually get easier, or harder to take out do they... Military's will always need tanks, they were invented for a reason, and have been flawed since their inception, in WW1 they broke down a lot, and got stuck all the time, in WW2 they became subject to bombing runs, and anti-tank guns, in the Gulf Wars they began to face ATGM's and other tanks with HEAT, now they face drones and APFSDS, that doesn't make them obsolete. Russia is using old, underarmored, undergunned and underpowered T-62's and 4's, but they're still invaluable the war effort, why? because they have enough armor to stop small arms, and a big enough gun, that they can take out bunkers, infantry groups, other tanks, etc. The first country in a war to stop using tanks, is doomed. Imagine if, in WW3 the US just stopped using tanks, bur Russia kept developing better and better ones unchallenged. Yes, the US could destroy plenty of them, of course, but the direct fire support they would provide for the Russians would be catastrophic for the US. I don't know why so many people seem to have this idea. Tanks were not obsolete, are not obsolete, and will never be obsolete.

The ammunition cooks off in the Challenger just as it does in the T-72 T-80 and T90. For the crew inside it doesn't matter if one shell or 20 cooks off, the result is the same. They all perish inside. There's no way that the UK would send the Challenger tanks with APS to Ukraine, the only thing that they would learn from this is that the APS most likely does diddly squat to save the tanks, and this is not good for future sales of the APS system.

Ammo detonation not cookoff, different things. Cookoff is when ammo deflagrates violently with lots of flames but no sudden explosion. Detonation is what we saw in the tank hitby the Lancet. There are designs that can mitigate cookoffs (like blowout panels) but not really against detonations.

And when I ask in which battle or war has Challenger 2 participated since 1998?! They will immediately start with propaganda lies, saying it participated in the war in Bosnia and Kosovo?! Which is of course a LIE! The war in Bosnia lasted from 1992-95, so there is not even a theoretical chance that Challenger 2 participated in that war, since it entered service in 1998?! In the south of Serbia, in the province of Kosovo. The US and NATO did not participate with armored forces in the illegal aggression against Serbia. Instead, they used proxy forces, the Albanian army and Albanian KLA terrorists as cannon fodder. So that is of course another LIE! They say he participated in the war in Iraq. In Iraq he participated against the rebels, very poorly armed in slippers?! And that in only one battle in Basra, and that in totally controlled conditions, with the complete control of the US NATO occupiers on the ground and in the air... And then one Challenger 2 tank was almost destroyed even in such ideal conditions for the Challenger 2. And on this basis the British in their propaganda media "concluded that it was an indestructible tank"?! What a comedy! The war in Ukraine THE FIRST, REAL WAR FOR ALL WESTERN TANKS! Which was not removed, nor was it delivered to Ukraine. In essence, it does not change anything and if it was delivered, that additional armor protection. Tanks have always required protection, either from other tanks, IFV's etc or from their own infantry. They have always been vulnerable to attack from above and now with drones that is massively magnified. It is also a problem with tactics. Lone tanks going out without cover or protection... to do what exactly? Die quickly? These are some really poor tactics.

They aren't being sent out without cover. As it stands, there is no effective cover or defense from FPV drones, especially the fiber optic variety. Hence, entire columns of armor can be handily destroyed where you have "air superiority" (drone version).

In the cold war the life expectancy of an Abrams in active combat was something like 13 minutes per US Army. That's with that same doctrine. So while it may seem counterintuitive when that doctrine has been pushed for decades it just hasn't held up under current conditions and any concentration of forces of any type draws massive amounts of ISR strike capabilities down on it that destroy everything. That's why this war is being fought on company level most of the time instead of divisions, corps, and armies like doctrine once proposed. This is a micro level war. Until anti drone capabilities catch up and they can protect against ISR strikes this tactic will be the new normal. Until they find a better method. Single use of Abrams is being done to make them last longer believe it or not. When used in larger numbers with support they were getting wiped out even faster because they were easier to locate. It draws in all assets against it. Look at how that doctrine fared in summer 2023 in Zaporozhia region. It got mauled in record time. No breakthrough was ever achieved and they barely reached the first line of defense of the Surovikin line before being halted and then rolled back in less than the time it took to capture that limited ground.

Mythical was never boasted about by the British it was a just a verified fact. You failed to mention that Russians stopped trying to engage Challenger 2 in a tank on tank battle as they were losing big time. Agree that the UK should have included the latest armour but they couldn't risk it falling into Russian hands and they knew that inevitably a few tanks would fall victim to asymmetric attack. All in all 3 out of 14 is pretty damn good given the conditions. I have no doubt we should talk about other losses like Abrams and leopard's why just challenger?

The U.K. cannot afford these tanks. State pensions and provisions in case of illness or unemployment are almost third world standard compared to other European countries. I am pretty sure that it can be demonstrated that armoured vehicles are now always going to be death traps in the view of developments. Countermeasures will presumably be just as quickly overcome as they are developed.

The weapons rack is at the back of the turret on a Challenger. It uses shells and bag charges. It can hit moving targets after being locked on by laser. It adjusts for wind speed, distance and round used. It very rarely misses the target. The armour is still top secret and was removed prior to being handed over to Ukraine. 2 7.62mm GPMG machine guns, the turret gun under gunner control. Its got thermal imaging to see at night. It has a separate generator to start the engine.🇬🇧

​@@34recI was in a British tank regiment. It depends where you hit the tank. The 'special' armour we have is very good, you cant penetrate that, even with a tank round. Unfortunately if you covered a tank with that it wouldn't be able to move probably. With the use of modern drones and anti-tank weapons, it's becoming far more difficult for a tank to survive long enough to do anything useful. Once you've been detected, it's only a matter of time before you're destroyed. A Challenger has a 4 man crew, thats far too many lives to lose for the sake of a tank. Tanks are OK against other tanks or buildings, but confronted with a highly trained and well equipped infantry unit you've got no chance.

As a Brit one cannot simply ignore the truth of national pride and national biases which any person can attest to who has any national pride would say and in respect the chall2 has its problems no denying that simple fact eg it’s underpowered, it’s slow AF, and can’t handle mud, that being said it’s fire control system is the best in the world along with its stellar performance and record, not to mention that whilst most popular beliefs and ideas tend to be over inflated or exaggerated I will admit, but again the fact that out of the two years of constant conflict and the complete lack of adequate support and resources along with its missing components, the challenger 2 tank has held up so far, especially when you compare it to say the infamous German leopard or American abrams which has suffered much higher rates of losses, again caused by a other rate of combat usages along with mismanagement, but the fact remains that again out of the fourteen tanks sent to Ukraine six challenger 2’s are still functioning whilst the other seven are being used for auxiliary support roles or as spare parts, not only that but the real issue isn’t whether or not the tank actually survived because much like how the Israeli merkarva is hailed as the safest tank in the world, nothing is concrete and the same was said about how unsinkable the titanic was and you know how that story ends, again losses are an inevitable result of war it’s just the cold hard truth, but wha should be considered and valued shouldn’t be the number of tank losses, but the number of tank crews that where able to survive and out of all challenger 2 tanks that ever saw active service has a grand total of less than a fifty record crew losses which should be considered phenomenal and again, as the Israelis put it, a tank no matter how advanced it is can always be replaced, the crews who’s value lies in their experience and skills can’t be so easily replaced and considering that a grand total of about twenty American abrams have been lost or destroyed either from enemy actions of simple environmental factors twenty out of thirty one abrams have been confirmed as destroyed or lost
