The white chalky substance is kaolinite, a clay mineral, and is pretty cool. I wouldn't destroy it. The mineral at 7:20 that you didn't know is probably dolomite. Im looking at this on my phone.

i have cut about 30-40 geodes or so over the last few years, and i keep coming across this chalky stuff. i was told that its Gypsum. the uncrystallized form of Selenite. going to have to look up this Kaolinite now. thanks for the info.

I'd like to see you tumble geodes and then cut them open. That would look cool. Also, you could throw in some solid geodes that you already cut in half. I saw a guy do that and they come out comparable to agates.

I love geodes! I have a couple of really cool ones from gem & mineral show where you can pick one and then they split it open for you with that racheting chain splitter. I've been lucky, picking one in particular that has all this wonderful druzy crystal inside, and it's got great depth. Fun watching you cut them.
