Bro please make a video on how to differ between dyed agates and natural agates
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of dyed agates..I just googled it and it seems like companies or shops dye agates to produce a better color..so dyed agates aren't natural agates, and you wont find dyed agates in any rock shop that has class. Natural agates vary in their banding and color, all the agates found on my channel are 100% natural beauties:)

When I was still able, I used to pick translucent stones like these, on a beach, on an island in the Bay of Fundy. Twice a day the tide would recreate the beach as if it had never been touched. I gathered stones there for over 30 years and there were as many the last time as there was on the first trip. A suggestion for ya. Carry a laser pointer to check stones for translucency. Try it at home on some of the stones you already have and you'll see why I suggest this. Happy hunting.

I was hunting for artifacts on my father's traditional hunting grounds....I found a bunch of red translucent stones identical to the agate in your video at 2:52. Some with banding some without. They averaged between 1-3 inches. Something about them urged me to keep them. I must have had 2.5kg. Unfortunately l needed the room for artifacts. So they wound up back in the ocean....I wish l had seen your videos sooner. Great content. Awesome editing. Keep it up brother!

That's quite the haul!! You said that was a new spot?
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
It sure was! I have been trying to get there all winter and the snow was too high to park anywhere, I finally was able to pull in just enough to fit my vehicle lol

The mystery rock is coral. And as someone who lives in Minnestoa, they make us tough here.

Loved finding that piece, will have to go back to hopefully find more!!

I think that yellow is called limonite. I found the end of your video very weird. I noticed that it was still light out when you were driving home. How did you manage to haul yourself off that beach while the sun was still up??? What an awesome beach!
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
You must have caught the little hint to fridays video with the box bop lol it was hard to leave, wanted to get home at a decent time though! The beach will always be there though 😁👍👍

I've been walking down the railroad tracks by my house early in the mornings and I always come home with my pockets full of Agates, Quartz, Fluorite, Jaspers, Onyx and I've even found some very nice chunks of Quartz full of Galena.

Days like this are the reason we keep coming back, no matter what the weather does! Nice Bag o' Treasures you got there Taylor. That nodule at 10:20 may surprise you and be an agate. Hit that beach again if the weather holds, then let the Winter ice do the stone cold shoreline shuffle and go back after the Spring thaw to a fresh beach! If That thought don't give ya happy chills then I don't know what to say! I mean (hint hint) even your Scoop got happy!! 🤣🤣🤣 I wouldn't sweat the ones you left behind, when you get back they'll be right where you left them... umm... you, DO, remember where you left them... right? 😬😉 Get knee pads and use them... you'll be glad you did when you're my age... don't ask, just trust my experience, and my old busted a$$ knees. 😜 Again, Thanks for sharing another great video. As always, Good Luck, Have Fun, and Keep on Houndin' Steve...

Thanks Steve! And yes, I do KNEED knee pads, my dad always told me, you need to protect your knees!! I believe it! I hope they're right where I left them I'll remember!

We in Tasmania have white sand at our beach but I think I would rather have stones and gemstones on my beach like this. Wow some really beautiful pieces what do you do with your finds? Do you polish or cut or just collect
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
I do polish them with a dremel and hand polish with wet sandpaper

I’m sure glad your post popped up in my feed, I come to duluth quite often, my wife’s hometown, I’m a hound from Southern Illinois and i deal southern rock to “Beaver Bay Agate Shop” and would be stoked to get with you and do a hunt next time i come up. Im hard up to find some yooper lites on the north shore! I refuse to believe they only exist on the south shore!! Keep it up hound dog!!
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
I know for a fact they exist on the north shore, I've been informed from someone who's found them, much harder than UP but they're there!

My father and I were never particularly close. He was into hunting and fishing and football and me...not so much. I do think, if I had known my love for rockhounding back then, I could have gotten him interested since I think he just enjoyed being outdoors. Maybe it could have improved out relationship to have something in common. My point being, it's a great activity to share with your kids, even if you arent a HUGE fan, the kids likely will be.
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
I bet you two would have connected with it for sure, i look forward to the times rockhounding with my son and other future kiddos, my little guy already is a rock nut and he's 1 ¹/²!
