Also, Rio is the only one who wasn't thrown into the quicksand. So, next episode we might get a Wiccan/Lady Death conversation. Especially considering Wanda manifested her children, they both should've belonged to her once, but somehow Billy(and hopefully by extension, Tommy) made it to his teens, PLUS WandaVision Wanda is suggested to still be alive, which would be another instance where someone narrowly escaped Death. So, Billy and Rio have a lot to talk about if they do end up alone. Or at least, Rio has a lot to talk to Billy about.

The name of the episode says it all: Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power. "Teen" was so upset by Alice's death and felt so betrayed by Agatha, that the strong emotions basically manifested his magic power. It was his darkest hour: to the point of renouncing his interest in witchcraft (No, not for me). I don't think Billy / Wiccan knew he had that power until it was awakened by his anger. His magic up till then was the craft part of witchcraft... chanting spells from a book, etc. He wanted to walk the Road to gain the real power... levitation, energy bolts, etc. He didn't know that real power was already in him. The mystery now is, at what point did Billy Maximoff's soul (the only thing left of him after Wanda ended the Westview Hex) get reincarnated or possess Billy Kaplan's body. There was a headline behind Joe Locke's name in the end credits that says something like "Near-fatal auto accident in Westview".

The reason why Billy had the crown is because he’s the son of a nexus being, and not only that, he’s the son of the Scarlet Witch, so he’s gonna have the same form of power as Wanda but on a more amplified level, hence the crown being used to signify that. In the comics, the offspring of a nexus being is destined to be far more powerful than the nexus being themself. In the comics Wiccan becomes the Demiurge.

I think the moment he said Nicholas Scratch Agatha knew. He has a sigil and has not ever been able to say his own name. Once she mentioned his mother I think the sigil was destroyed and he remembered who he really was. I don’t think he killed them I think he just threw them off the road and back to Westview. When Nicholas Scratch called out to his mother to stop, really got to me. But it also reveals the true intention of Agatha Harkness. She wants her son Nicholas Scratch, and Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan wants his mother Wanda Maximoff.

The fact that he's into magic (we literally know nothing about Nicholas, so interest in magic tells nothing in regards to him). Or the fact that he's naturally powerful enough to break a Scarlet Witch curse. Or, that he's been wearing the same color pattern he did when she kidnapped him. Or, when Death (Rio) told her Billy wasn't hers. I think all hearing her son's name did was make her stop murdering Alice

Billy definitely didn’t kill Agatha, Jen, and Lilia. There are still four episodes left and we’ve seen trailer footage of them all doing more trials together. I think he might have thrown them off the Road temporarily. In the trailers we’ve seen a clip of Jen crawling out from underground back into Westview. 👀 My theory is that Teen saying Nicholas Scratch’s name aloud without being sigil’d confirmed for Agatha that he couldn’t be her son, so he must be Wanda’s. Her figuring out his identity may have caused the sigil to lift, as it would no longer be “needed” with her in the know. The sigil lifting could have unlocked some of Billy’s powers and memories - “awake thy power” is in the title of this episode. I think he was concealing how powerful he is and what he wanted from the Road before, but I’m not sure that he was fully powered up while under the sigil.

darkest hour (for teen), wake thy power. i think he did put the sigil on himself, with Agatha knowing his identity, sigil's effect gone. promo image released officially by marvel before the show even aired could tell who the characters are and their story. - Teen was The Tower represent "Chaos (and i forgot)", you could spot symbol "M", blue crown, lightning (magic), and falls with Tommy out of collapsed Tower (Wundagore). - Agatha was three pentacles representing grief and sorrow. - Alice was khight of wands (brave selfless figure), also the demon horn above symbol, which in episode 4. - Jen was high priestess as Lilia mentiond, symbol of traditions and rituals as potion witch and root worker. - Lilia is queen of cups (mature lady), and hour glass symbol above indicating time divination. - Three pentacle is the coven, you can see members holding hands. - Rio, well, you can look it up.

Just subscribed. Below are some of my thoughts: 1) I think Teen threw Lilia and Jen off the road as a slap on the wrist for being so callous and selfish. Jen, especially, flat out said that acquiring power is the most important objective for any of them; implying that they will step over anyone they have to in order to get power. That did not set well with Teen (Billy). And, yes... Billy has been puppeteering all of this from the beginning. 😉 2) The writers of the series clearly made his crown more like Wanda's to indicate to non-comic fans that Teen is in fact Wanda's son, Billy. In Wandavision, Wanda dresses up in a Scarlet Witch Halloween costume before realizing and embracing that she IS the Scarlet Witch. In the comics Billy has a crown, but it is more a solid piece like a metal headband. In this 80s-inspired trial, Teen is wearing a headband and the same colors of Billy's costume from the comics. This foreshadowed that he was about to reveal himself as Billy Maximoff (Kaplan)/Wiccan. 3) Pretty much nothing is a throwaway line in this series. While Teen telling Lilia that the rules of the Ouija said "For Ages 3 and Up" was hilarious, I think it was an indication that Agatha's son was taken from her or killed at 3 years old. 4) It likely slipped Lilia's mind to tell the coven about Agatha revealing that she can only steal magic when blasted. That is why Lilia screamed when Alice blasted Agatha in an attempt to save her life. Lilia got broken premonitions (ie. "Alice don't." and "Try to save Agatha!"), so she was never able to warn Alice, "Don't try to save Agatha!" 5) The purpose of the sigil was to keep Teen from revealing his identity and connection to Wanda, as that could have put him in danger given the bad blood between Agatha and Wanda. Agatha tells Billy he is so much like his mother; when she walks away after saying that, I heard a heavy sound effect that resembled a heavier version of the sound effect for the sigil across his mouth. It was brief but definitely there, and I think that is when the sigil was destroyed. Agatha figured out who he was and his connection to Wanda. In that moment, she perceived him as getting on his soapbox much like Wanda did in Wandavision. Since she figured out his identity, the sigil was no longer needed and was destroyed. Shortly after the sound effect of the sigil being destroyed, he powered up. 6) I think Agatha can wield Alice's power. My impression is that she was truly remorseful and intentionally fizzled out the flame rather than relish in a new power. In contrast, the reason she reveled in stealing Wanda's power to the point of killing her is because she was in the grip of The Darkhold. Let's not forget that The Darkhold also made Wanda do unspeakable acts... The Darkhold is no joke. 7) I don't think for a second that Agatha is evil or that she intentionally killed Alice. The creator of "Agatha All Along" said that Agatha is essentially a drag queen. Therefore, her meanness, self-centeredness, and lack of empathy is largely performative. I think it is the armor she wears, because she has been hurt so much for CENTURIES; even by her own mother. Like you said, it is absolutely a defense mechanism. 8) And that leads me to my next thought, which centers on Agatha's relationship with her mother. Her mother hated her from birth for being different. Instead of trying to understand her, she would rather kill her; and tried. Rio has been in love with Agatha for a long time and, as much as she wants to kill Agatha herself (because it's her job), she stiffened her back and was ready to go toe to toe with Agatha's mom. Rio tried explaining to the coven multiple times how abusive Agatha's mother was to her. This storyline is tragically very emblematic of the LGBT youth experience. 9) Finally, BILLIE Eilish introducing us to BILLY Maximoff (Kaplan)/Wiccan was genius. I actually got chills.

Their eyes glowed with his influence the moment he took control. So, there's no reason to believe he did anything before this considering the drastic lack of visual evidence 2) agreed, nothing to really add 3) I took it more as this was actually Billy's trial and he was created 3 years ago in Wandavision. So he's currently 3yo real world time. Just a meta joke 4) would agree, except in that same episode when the Salem 7 were closing in Agatha tells them to "Blast me you bitches! I don't have time for this!" Probably not verbatim but that idea. So she already kinda gave away the plot there. But meh, not a big difference 5) I didn't hear that. But, I wasn't listening that close. 6) Why do you think that? There's no reason to. Not once have we seen Agatha use the witches power she just stole from. She's stealing their energy, their essence, their life force. Not their tricks. At least by the evidence available so far. 7) you stop being the victim the moment you start hurting others. And until we know if she was born with the ability to drain others, learned it, or was "gifted it" (she was already reading from the Darkhold before her mother's attempted execution). If she chose that ability, or was gifted it (in exchange for her son maybe?) then she doesn't get the excuse of it being reflex or uncontrolled. If she was born with that ability then I'll grant that plausibility. But, Wanda demonstrates in their showdown that you can both learn that skill and stop before killing the victim. 8) for being different? Or, for being evil. Terms matter, we don't get to replace them for a better theory. And leading her own coven and being that in touch with the supernatural and dark forces in thinking we can take her weird in the born genuinely evil part. There's no reason not to. Agatha keeps telling us she can be good, but she never demonstrates it. Does Rio want to kill Agatha? Or, does she want to punish her? Again we have to use the terms provided. And why? Perhaps, after doing her job and taking Nicholas, Agatha scorned her. So, she wants to hurt Agatha back. Punish her. (Pure speculation). And yes I'm saying Rio is Lady Death. 9) yes, that needle drop was excellent 10) we need Agatha to replace Thanos in the Lady Death and Deadpool love triangle.

He has been driving most of their progress on the Witch's Road while pretending to be a complete newbie. I'm glad you questioned that, because I can see how that would have been easily misunderstood. :) 3) lol I got your joke. ;) The other significant "3" is on Agatha's shirt, but I think that is supposed to represent "Maiden, Mother, Crone". 4) You're right! How could I forget one of my favorite lines? 6) We haven't seen her use another witch's power YET, but she was holding Alice's flame in her hand after the trial. My friend speculated that she couldn't fully activate it, but I told her that I did not think she was trying to. Rather, she looked remorseful that she had it. 7) Her mother said, "You were born evil. I ought to have killed you the moment you left my body." Based on that information, I think it is likely something out of her control (without guidance to use it for the purpose of good) and clearly present at birth. 8) Again, based on the mother's statements, she thinks Agatha was born evil. Not everything is literal. Movies often use symbolism to reflect a larger message outside the story with real world applications. Many parents of LGBT kids think their children were born evil or have evil inside them, which is why so many parents have sent their kids to damaging, religious conversion camps or disown them entirely. I think it is pretty clear they are drawing the comparison here. Agatha was born with something her mother did not understand. As a result, her mother treated her like sh*t rather than make an effort to learn more about the hand Agatha was dealt and support her. The symbolism is strong; especially with the series being so LGBT-centered. I agree Rio is Lady Death. In the beginning of the series, Agatha says, "You can't kill me... it's not allowed." That is straight from the dialogue, which left the implication that Rio wanted to kill Agatha. Of course, Rio rebutted by saying that she could at least make her wish she was dead. That said, underneath it all, I don't think Rio really wants to hurt or kill Agatha; I think she loves her. 10) Yes, yes, YES!

Unless it's something like the Infinity gauntlet, or a Green Lantern which allows you to do literally anything. So not specifically showing something with those isn't an indictment. But, we're dealing with new Marvel mechanics here with witchcraft. So we have to play by the rules we've been shown. And do far, that ability hasn't been demonstrated. It might be later, then we can consider it. But until then we have to assume she can't just do that. And it would make sense that Agatha's magic looks like hers right now, it's the only magical fuel in her atm. Born evil could also simply mean touched by Mephisto. He's been name dropped we can play with the idea he tainted her in the womb. Going to go a bit off the rails here but... In the comics Billy and Tommy are (in certain continuities) shards of Mephisto's soul. Perhaps she was cursed by him so that she would later give birth to his son (Nicholas Scratch). Making him the Agent of Mephisto that was suggested in episode 3. Perhaps it was Mephisto that forced Rio to take Nicholas (her scar from episode 4) to satisfy that objective... *Shrugs* as I said, no rails for that one lol And I don't deny the LGBT+ coding at all. I fall in that spectrum so I'm familiar with the inherent trauma that comes with it. But, were dealing with Marvel here and evil is a very literal thing. Chthon literally invented it in Marvel and he wrote the Darkhold. Literal demons and devils vampires and swamp things exist. While yes, there is the usage of allegory we have to keep in mind the world these things exist in. And evil is a very literal thing in Marvel. Especially with the more sinister beings being confirmed as existing. So I don't believe it was simply being "different" or misunderstood. I think her mom detected actual, literal evil. And that can be true while still exploring the allegorical connection. Though, it does fail in certain regards. The mother, is already involved in fairly sapphic practices (witchcraft) so for the hate to be lesbian coded doesn't really follow when the mom partakes. So it does have to be literal evil. Not the allegory

@MACReact, 10:54 I agree with you. I think MCU Agatha is a mutant. Agatha is from the 1600's well before a school for mutants was ever established. There are two types of mutants: those who can control their powers (Xavier, Wolverine, Iceman, Storm) and those who cannot (Beast, Angel, Cyclops, Nightcrawler); those who cannot control their mutant abilities cannot turn their powers off, and that inability is often to their own detriment, as we saw in the FOX X-Men movies with characters like Nightcrawler and Beast. I think Agatha fits into the camp of mutants who cannot control her powers; she hasn't been taught how to do that--her emotional tie to her son and hearing someone else speak his name was enough to knock her out of the intoxication of draining the lifeforce out of someone. Why would Evanora say, "You were born evil," here: 9:36 Did she have an assisted Magical birth? Did newborn Agatha drain the lifeforce from her mother's midwife? Evanora lived during the Salem Witch trials, which was not an ideal time to be a witch. Being hunted by crazed men was bad enough, having one of your own kill your kind just because you were playing with her with Majik must have been scary. It's likely safe to assume Evanora showed Agatha little love and kept her at arm's length. With no one to teach Agatha the ways of her people, it is no wonder she sought Mephisto out or the Darkhold. Did she want the Darkhold because of what it could give her, the ability to control her powers? Her powers put her son in danger. Do you know what the difference between witches and sorcerers in the MCU? Witchcraft is hereditary sorcery is learned. Nicholas would have been born with the ability to use magic. Agatha likely feared for her son's life, I can see that being her motivation to get that book. 1693, IIRC, is when Agatha got her hands on the Darkhold, so she has had it for 331 years to learn from it, and nothing in it gave her what she wanted until Wanda came along--it spoke about Wanda, remember? This also explains why Agatha wanted the powers of the Scarlet Witch! What is Wanda's ability? Reality warping! Wanda can make reality what she wants it to be, and that is exactly what a soul-sucking mutant incapable of controlling their powers would want, the ability to live a life in which you can turn your powers off and live with your child. I don't think Agatha wanted to be evil, and I don't think that she is actually evil. People treated her as such, and she played the part. Her reputation kept her safe, so why give that up? She gave a glimpse into her true self when she told Jennifer Kale why she left her alone in the third episode. Unlike the witches Agatha killed, Jen was actually helping people--she was a midwife. We can't overlook the fact that Agatha didn't kill the children of the witches who came for her either--they hadn't done anything to her (yet). This is getting really good! 13:07 I don't think Billy is Billy right now. I think his anger in the moment made him susceptible to possession. Evanora isn't bound to the house. Her spirit is trapped on this plane. She was set free from the Ouija board--they didn't say goodbye to her, just Nicholas. Evanora is free to pursue Agatha on her own and she seems to have done that via possession. Next week should be interesting. Rio's up! She's the green witch, nature is her domain. She's the only one who can save the coven now.

A sigil also works on the witch who cast it, so maybe Billy cast it on himself? When Agatha figured it out, it broke the sigil, and probably also allowed him to access his power again. I am so curious to see how the heck the series will continue, we're only halfway through. Clearly the coven has fallen apart, yet theyre supposed to somehow have a truce and continue? The next trial is yellow, for Lilia, so the one where theyre dressed up as fairytale witches (in the room with the swords in the ceiling)

Wiccan is a hero not a murderer. They’re still alive, and I’m beginning to think Billy has created all of this. He’s 16. His powers are all over the map, but we’ll see how it plays out.

What if Billy put the sigil on himself? It would hide him from all witch folk including himself. It would let him get close to Agatha, without him being able to know or say who he really was. And as soon as Agatha told him that he was like his mother, implying that she knew who he really was, it was no longer needed, so it broke. Which would then let him know who he really was, and that he already had enough power to do what he wants. Because if he’s known who he was the whole time and how powerful he is, why didn’t he protect himself from the Salem Seven in ep2?

I reckon this IS the divination trial, and next episode theyll have to avoid this outcome. There's a few subtle hints in this ep, but also; Ep 4: Alice, Alice don't Ep 3: save Agatha

i think the biggest thing to indicate this may not have been the genuine trial/what we’re seeing isn’t necessarily real is the aspect ratio. for jen’s/water trial and alice’s/fire trial, as soon as they got in the house for the trial and closed the door the aspect ratio changed, and then once they exited the trial house and were back on the road the ratio changed back. that did not happen here, the aspect ratio remained consistent the entire episode. i think from the moment lilia “wakes up” we’re either in a prolonged “vision” of hers and/or it’s something the salem 7 are doing to her (or the whole group) using the offerings left behind when they summoned rio
