I dilute USMC black with 50/50 dye and water. This causes the dye to dry pretty quick but also to turn into a powdery substance on the surface. This powdery layer wipes 95% percent away and makes the leather appear distressed or aged. Then applying your actually dye or gel gives a similar effect. Although you want to go lighter for the second dye otherwise the work doesnt show as well.

So dilute tea and coffee work well for paper. I haven't tried it with leather but it should work.

Tandy definitely needs to sponsor you! Also, what do you recommend buying to start in leatherworking? I was thinking of getting into it.
@SkillTree

You can 100% get away with one of the "basic leather kits" sold on Amazon. The most of what I use came from a basic starter kit Tandy makes. I also made an episode on leather crafting without any tools, if you wanted to give it a shot without buying anything but the leather.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely check out that vid as well. I thought maybe the quality of those amazon kits isn’t great? I could be wrong. Thank you.

A warning about the Amazon tool kits. They will likely not come with any instructions or leather. The starter kits from Tandy will have both and are very thoroughly explained.

@@jarekmace1536 yeah, I guessed that, I had considered buying one of them, but I thought exactly what you said. Instead, I’ll probably just buy some leather from a reliable source like Tandy, and then buy more specialized tools in the future if I find out that I really like leatherworking.

Me: "He would need to apply the dye lightly to-" CL3VER: "Apply the dye very lightly" Me: "It almost feels like it's drybrush-" CL3VER: "It's like drybrushing" You nailed all the points man xD 👏👏👏
