Thanks for sharing your techniques.. It’s amazing the small things you do that help others on there leather crafting journey.. Ex.. Leaving the sheep wool in the antique.

Great tutorial Joe. As a beginner, I'm sure you make it look easier than it is, especially for newcomers. Can I ask if you had to prepare that leather before you started? Thanks.

Is there any chance you could do a short video on how to repair the 'camouflage' dye that has been applied to the leather

Very informative Joe thank you. Hopefully now my projects will hold the antique better after following this.

I have a questions. I skive diy leather then cut my shape , paint and finish it. After 12 hours I can see that the cut piece has shrunk by about 1 mm around the edges! How can I fix the problem?

I am just curious, at what point in this process do you think it would be best to apply a little paint. i love your videos. always learning more. thanks.

I want my pattern to be darker than the raw leather color. How do I go about that? Do I use a light brown before the resist?
@vaquerojoel20267 ай бұрын
Awesome advice Joe, thank you. How would you do a larger surface with the final top coat? Say something like a Bible cover or large toat bag? Would you just do it in small sections?

What if you want to add paintwork? You paint before or after you oil it?

Good video presentation. One question. Did you buff after dye or oiling at all? Didn't see you do that.

I tried to buy your basic antique kit on your side but it says it doesn’t ship to California. Is there another way we can get this kit? Thank you .

confuzzled - the 23+ January billfold you oiled before dying. is an interchangeable step?

On thinner leather, mine curled up. should I do both sides? Also, It totally dry now. Should I just go ahead and use the oil or should it start damp?

This is awesome!! A related question…I use Pro Dye and have gone back and forth between neatsfoot or olive oil right after dyeing like this, but recently, as the dye or dye/oil dry I get a metallic/oil (rainbow cast) look…any ideas or thoughts on that??? I’ve never had that problem before until recently.

My dad started leather work in 1971 he passed 2 years ago. I got all his tools and leather. All i have now is tan kote . Not resoline. Can i use top coat the same way. I have only started doing bigger projects. Not just key chains😂
@travisleddy68875 ай бұрын
Tan kote will still allow moisture penetration so, yes you can use it as a resist, but it will not be as effective at blocking the pigment in the antique.

So what do you use if you are in California,the pro dyes won't ship here

hi joe! thanks for this video! I have a question for you, is it possible to apply wax or balm after a few months to soften and rehydrate the leather? Do the layers of resolene allow absorption or do they create some kind of barrier?
@nathank47087 ай бұрын
I was told to use saddle soap after cpl months. Keep in mind i just started cpl yrs ago.

Where can I buy the sheepskin that you use as an applicator?
@joemeling32168 ай бұрын
Well- we are looking to start offering them. You can also buy a full hide and cut it up. Weaver also offers a fleece pack (www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/dressing-fleece-pack-of-8). They work ok but I like the sheepskin better.
@chrisfournier61446 ай бұрын
Any good paint store that sells clear floor finishes carries fleece applicators and the size will keep you in fleece for years.

Why resoline before antik? Why not tan-kote?
@mikestoning55368 ай бұрын
The important part is to use a resist, there are a few, and to make sure it's dry before applying the antique.
