Atmosphere and setting is there it just needs an updated grapihics and UI + combat rewamp to make at least some classes less wooden(im looking at you ranger) and it will be a success you can feed rl hard off nostalgia. Yeah Mitch there are two servers left on AoC. You chose the abandoned server Fury which is only used by a few tragics. There was a mass exodus years ago and everyone plays on the Crom PvE server now. It really is a shame you didn't know this going in because the Crom server is very much alive. There is more PvP on Crom in the form on 6v6 or 12v12 mini games and once a month there is a week long in game PvP festival held in one of the Border Kingdoms (3 zones with open world PvP and Sieging enabled). The 6 person PvE Dungeons and 24 person Raids are absolutely the best content for new comers and veterans alike. There are Dungeons and Raids for all skill and experience levels. Age of Conan truly has an impressive Group/Raid system. There is still a whole lot of fun to be had on this game, you just messed up and picked the dead server!

It works like this, you run with your melee character, try to do the combo and the ranged spell caster runs & does the insta cast rinse & repeat as cooldown allows till you're death.

AOC was my first MMO, that I started playing after I graduated high school. It was an incredible game for many years, and I spent so much time enjoying it for its amazing open world PvP and PvP mini games. I have so many memories that I look back fondly on quite regularly. Running and hiding from level 80 HOGG guild members as a level 40 player in the Field of the Dead, until other level 80 players heard of them there and came to our rescue. Getting my guardian decked out in the best gear at level 59 so I could play with my friends in the lvl 40-59 pvp minigames and lock down the Eiglophian Mountains map. I spent probably an entire year at level 59... Finally getting to level 80 myself so I could participate in the player-made dueling arena at the entrance to Kheshatta for hours on end. Just the complexity of the combat system, and the skill needed to really master it was something I have never experienced in another game, let alone an MMO. It was sad to witness its downfall, as Funcom mismanaged it and ignored its player base, but they gave me 3-4 years of the most enjoyment and fun I've ever had, and I will never forget that

Spent an enjoyable couple of months playing Age of Conan quite a few years ago. Seemed like an unfinished game but did enjoy the combat mechanics.
@smward87 Жыл бұрын
Not so much unfinished as the opening area of Tortage is misleading in that it makes it seem like the game is going to be a narrative driven PvE experience, when in reality it was meant to be a PvP focused game with the main game mode being the Guild vs Guild content. Tortage was just an extended tutorial and once you leave it and enter the open world, the PvP was meant to carry the game with the questing as nothing more than a means to get xp in between the bouts of GvG shenanigans. And thus the game died the same slow death that all PvP focused MMOs do. Once the PvP scene died down, the game died along with it.

When I eventually did go back, I ended up finding out that not only did it go free to play, but that mount I had from the CE, gone. Sadly, it died for me when they waved the nerf bat all over and ruined my favorite and many other classes. Lots of people left about that time as well. Still, I have good memories of this game and surprised it hasn't shutdown yet. Might give it a run just for nostalgia's sake.

I did play this between GW1 and GW2 and really enjoyed it, but I'm a massive Conan fan. It was more popular back then, and I actually got to play some of the raids. Overall, I remember loving the zones, but the combat was old fashioned even then, and the classes were balanced so that the premium ones were simply better, which felt really weird if you'd picked the iconic Conan class, the Barbarian. I also chose a PvP server, and to be honest, the constant ganking got a bit too much, and instilled a deep and lifelong hatred of the game's Assassin class. But still, for a Conan fan, there were lots of neat little nods to the books.

While I've never played Age of Conan I do own and enjoy its sort of spiritual successor, Conan Exiles. Where Age of Conan was an MMO that kind of flopped in its attempts to dig itself into the MMO market, Conan Exiles is a fun(ky) sandbox survival game with no small emphasis on multiplayer, like countless other games that have done similar since the DayZ days. However unlike Age of Conan, Conan Exiles' multiplayer is completely optional, so you can have fun with playing in a Hyborian Age inspired sandbox world without the worry of raids, an obnoxious chat, or Chinese hackers dominating game zones and holding ransom entire server lobbies.

I played AoC from beta (last logged in about 3yrs ago) , and during beta we all complained about the issues in certain zones dropping to like 1-3FPS but they were ignored, sadly AoC was a game that pushed out too early, had they left in beta for say 3 months more it could have honestly been the wow breaker, at time it had amazing graphics for the day, the 'gore mechanic' was almost a first in MMO , the fact it allowed swearing and nudity was unheard of in this genre. However, they rushed it out to get the £££ and the game was crowded for first month or 2 then once people hit the crap area's the game couldn't be played and people stopped and sadly that killed the game, but hand on heart had they waited 3-4 months more and fixed the issues around some of the zones this game could still be a big player today.

The music you used is amazing. I wish you'd link them in the description. :'(

I remember playing this at release and being completely blown away by the starting area and then the crushing dissapointment when discovering that the starting area was apparently the only location that FunCom put any effort into. Maybe it got better in the endgame but I got so bored I quit pretty quickly.

Can you checkout the fan server of City of Heroes sometime? I adored that game back in the day. Thanks.

Hey I just found your channel and I have to say your videos you put out are most excellent quality. Might I suggest looking into Dark Age of Camelot, it has excellent PVP akin to your Warhammer MMO video, albeit it is even older. The castle invading and defending battles and world pvp are incredible and left me with many fond memories of playing.

A game from my past. I think I have leveled up about a dozen characters over the years I played it.

There are several games that came out back then that didn't make it. It took Funcom a few relaunches to get it right. Another Funcom title I liked was The Secret World, but that one just couldn't keep players either.

I played perhaps an hour of that game, say 11-12 years ago, yet i could still remember the slaver in the beginning. Strange what sticks around in an otherwise forgettable experience.

An hour isn't enough to judge the game

@@UltrEgoVegeta It may be, but all of the real gameplay is there. Been a while since I played, but based on the video, looks like not enough has changed.
